Today Show Addressing the Disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s Mom, Nancy
Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones are still in disbelief over the situation involving Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, who is currently missing.
“We’re beginning today’s show in the same way we did yesterday, and we will keep doing so,” Bush Hager, 44, remarked during the episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle on Tuesday, February 3. “[We are] sending all our love to our dear friend Savannah and her family. The search for her mother, Nancy, is ongoing.”
On Sunday, February 1, news emerged that Nancy had been reported missing in Arizona. Authorities are continuing to seek public assistance in locating the 84-year-old, who requires medication.
“Behind the scenes, we’re all quite shaken. It affects us deeply,” Jones, 47, shared on Tuesday’s broadcast. “We recognize we have responsibilities, but as you all know, we’re essentially family here. This situation has left us a bit rattled.”
The NBC News correspondent, who has been filling in for Savannah, 54, during her time in Arizona, expressed, “Many of us struggled to sleep last night. Our concern for her is palpable. This morning, I awoke feeling anxious, checking my phone for updates.”
Before dawn, Jones encountered Savannah’s recent message, where she appealed to the public for prayers for her family.
“I assure you, that brought me a sense of calm. Leave it to Savannah to remind us of our core values,” Jones stated. “If she can maintain her faith amidst this turmoil and ask for prayers, we will certainly offer them and take inspiration from her.”
Bush Hager added, “Nancy has given Savannah, as well as her other two children, a profound sense of faith, kindness, and optimism. … When I had my son, I contemplated, ‘Who is the most faithful person I know? Who could guide him on his journey?’ And my answer was Savannah.”
Previously, Bush Hager noted that Savannah is the godmother to her son Hal. Bush Hager also serves as the godmother to Savannah’s daughter, Vale.
“She is a woman deeply cherished by everyone here at Today,” Bush Hager remarked during the Tuesday show. “I playfully told Savannah that Nancy was one of the early members of my book club. She always reads whatever I send her. She’s an enthusiastic reader and has a love for mahjong, which is how Savannah and I became friends.”
As the search for Nancy escalates, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos provided insight into how the Guthrie family is managing in this challenging time.
“Naturally, this situation is difficult for them all,” Nanos exclusively shared with Us Weekly on Monday, February 2. “They are supporting one another. They’ve been very helpful and cooperative with our efforts. They are involved and attentive. It’s undoubtedly hard for them.”
Nanos emphasized that it’s crucial not to lose hope. Simultaneously, the police believe Nancy is in a precarious situation.
“There were circumstances at that residence that raised our concerns, indicating that something was amiss,” he informed Us. “We’re going to employ every possible measure and explore all avenues. We truly hope this becomes a search-and-rescue operation, and we find her safe. However, it would be irresponsible not to acknowledge the evidence before us and take appropriate action.”
