‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ (2024)

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega seems tailor-made for a Tim Burton film after her success with the director in that popular Netflix series. It’s fitting that their first major collaboration, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is now available on Netflix ahead of Wednesday season 2. Ortega portrays Astrid Deetz, the teenage daughter of the original film’s leading lady, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). The relationship between Astrid and Lydia is strained, as Astrid doubts her mother’s ability to see ghosts.

Upon returning to Winter River, Connecticut, for Lydia’s father’s funeral, Astrid learns the harsh truth about her mother’s gift: ghosts do exist. When Astrid is lured into the afterlife, Lydia is compelled to seek help from Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), who still pines for her three decades later. Beetlejuice is also pursued by his vindictive ex-wife, Delores LaFerve (Monica Bellucci), who knows how to terminate a ghost.

Walker becomes invaluable to Beaumont as he attempts to shield his son, Charlie (Justin Cornwell), and Charlie’s partner, Mia (Quelin Sepulveda), who have been framed for the murder of a Triad leader and caught in a gang war. Beaumont expects Walker to locate Charlie and ensure his safety, yet he should have called for backup, as the Triads are seizing control of the city and Beaumont is next on their list.

The titular character of Paul is a little grey alien, voiced by Seth Rogen, who is drastically different from E.T. After years in U.S. custody, Paul seeks to complete one final mission on Earth before returning home. However, to evade Special Agent Lorenzo Zoil (Jason Bateman), he requires assistance from two sci-fi enthusiasts, Graeme Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost).

Initially, Clive and Graeme find Paul’s crude behavior off-putting, but they quickly become friends. Paul reveals some of his extraordinary abilities that make him a target for the Big Guy (Sigourney Weaver), who is determined not to let him escape.
