‘Pizza Movie’ (2016)
College roommates Jack (Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo) and Montgomery (The Goldbergs’ Sean Giambrone) take an experimental drug that leads to some seriously uncomfortable side effects. Until its thrilling climax, the film excels at building suspense and leaving much to the imagination, a sure sign of quality horror. Messina reveals a broad emotional range reminiscent of his praised performance in HBO’s Sharp Objects, while Thatcher shines as a resourceful teenage heroine determined to protect her family — if only someone would believe her.
