Top 3 New Hulu Movies to Check Out This Weekend (April 10-12)
This weekend, Watch With Us is craving some entertaining flicks that only Hulu can fulfill.
Luckily, the Disney-owned streaming service has just added Pizza Movie, a hilarious comedy that follows two stoners on an epic quest to get their hands on some pizza.
If you’re in the mood for something a bit deeper, take a look at The Boogeyman, a chilling 2023 horror film featuring The Mindy Project’s Chris Messina.
With love still lingering in the air this season, why not enjoy the delightful ’80s rom-com Murphy’s Romance starring Sally Field?
‘Pizza Movie’ (2016)
College roommates Jack (Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo) and Montgomery (The Goldbergs’ Sean Giambrone) take an experimental drug that leads to some seriously uncomfortable side effects. They soon realize their only remedy is pizza — a lot of it. But acquiring it is a challenge; they must evade their strict RA, Blake (Jack Martin), and a faulty pizza delivery robot that keeps their delicious remedy just out of reach. Will Jack and Montgomery remain focused enough amidst the chaos of a wild party and bizarre hallucinations to satisfy their cravings?
Pizza Movie cleverly balances a seemingly ridiculous premise with sharp execution. It’s a crude yet entertaining stoner comedy that revolves around two buddies who enjoy getting high and munching on food. While the storyline isn’t groundbreaking, the film is loaded with laughs and creatively amusing visuals that will keep you engaged. Fair warning: You’ll likely find yourself craving pizza before, during, and after this film.
Pizza Movie is now streaming on Hulu.
‘The Boogeyman’ (2023)
Therapist Will Harper (Chris Messina) is understandably rattled after a patient commits suicide in his home, especially since his daughter Sadie (Sophie Thatcher) discovers the body. But amid this trauma lies a more ominous presence lurking in the shadows — something possibly supernatural. As Sadie investigates, she uncovers a terrifying truth: Is the Boogeyman truly haunting their family? And how can they rid themselves of an entity that lacks a physical form?
Based on a short story by Stephen King, The Boogeyman delivers a satisfyingly eerie experience. Until its thrilling climax, the film excels at building suspense and leaving much to the imagination, a sure sign of quality horror. Messina reveals a broad emotional range reminiscent of his praised performance in HBO’s Sharp Objects, while Thatcher shines as a resourceful teenage heroine determined to protect her family — if only someone would believe her.
The Boogeyman is available for streaming on Hulu.
‘Murphy’s Romance’ (1985)
Living a quiet life in a small Arizona town, widower Murphy Jones (James Garner) finds his world disrupted when single mom Emma Moriarty (Sally Field) arrives. He is instantly captivated, but she hesitates to embrace romance. As she gets to know Murphy, she begins to see that he might be the one for her, despite their significant age difference. Will they find a way to bridge this gap and discover love in unexpected circumstances?
While Murphy’s Romance may not be filled with action, it captures the simplicity of life with Emma taking care of her horses, Murphy managing his pharmacy, and the couple enjoying serene night strolls. This tranquil approach is what makes the film charming, focusing on the most crucial element: love. The story showcases how a beautiful relationship can bloom through shared respect and appreciation. Field is engaging as a determined single mother, while Garner’s performance as a gentle man willing to pursue love again earned him an Oscar nomination.
