Travis Kelce Reflects on TD Record Achievement, Calls It ‘Soured’ by Loss
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is making significant strides in the franchise’s history, but the three-time Super Bowl champion remains determined to lead his team back to the playoffs.
Just days after setting a new franchise record for touchdowns, Travis, 36, noted that the achievement felt less satisfying due to the team’s loss.
“It’s an honor, man,” he shared with his brother, Jason Kelce, during the November 19 episode of their “New Heights” podcast. “Obviously, right now it’s soured because it’s coming off a f***ing loss. Our fifth loss of the season. But I have immense respect for the organization and for those who have paved the way, not just in the Chiefs but in the NFL, who’ve allowed me to earn a living.”
Travis broke the record during the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ game against the Denver Broncos on November 16. His 84th career touchdown briefly put Kansas City ahead 19-16 before the Broncos won the game 22-19. He had previously tied the record on October 27 against the Washington Commanders, equaling Chiefs legend Priest Holmes’ mark.
On Wednesday, the Kelce brothers reminisced about Kansas City legends, including Holmes, 52. Travis expressed that he is living his “childhood dreams.”
“Shout-out to Priest Holmes once more,” Travis said. “We’ve talked about him on this show and how much we f***ing loved him growing up.”
Despite feeling frustrated after the loss, Travis took the time to appreciate the positive atmosphere in the locker room.
“I just love coming to work,” he stated. “With the right mindset, a solid coach, and a great quarterback, if you stick around long enough, you start to pile up some impressive stats.”
“You deserve all the credit in the world for this achievement,” Jason, 38, complimented his brother. “Congratulations to the Big Yeti.”
Jason also stood up for the Chiefs, who are currently 5-5 after ten games and must fight for a playoff spot. He noted that four of their losses were within a single score, implying that just a few plays could’ve changed those results. The team, he reasoned, could easily be leading the AFC.
Both brothers even suggested they would prefer this year’s Chiefs over the 2024 team that posted a 15-2 record.
Travis wrapped up the discussion on his record-breaking game by redirecting the focus toward his teammates.
“I’m just a product of my environment, and I cherish Kansas City for that,” he stated. “Let’s keep adding to that f***ing record and score more touchdowns this year to push us into the playoffs.”
The Chiefs’ upcoming game is on Sunday, November 23, at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
