Was Eugene Levy Permitted to Inquire About Prince Harry with Prince William?
Eugene Levy had an honest conversation with Prince William regarding his life and aspirations as the future king of England on The Reluctant Traveler. But what about his relationship with brother Prince Harry?
Levy, 78, disclosed whether he was permitted to inquire about any topic during the filming of the Apple TV+ series. He informed ITV News that there were no restrictions.
“Were you ever told you couldn’t ask questions, for example, about Harry and Meghan [Markle]? Did you find that was just something you didn’t want to go near?” a reporter asked Levy in an interview that aired on Thursday, October 2.
Levy responded, “I wasn’t told I couldn’t ask anything, but it wasn’t really, you know, appropriate for me to delve into that.”
The actor, who has hosted the travel series for three seasons, admitted, “I had no desire to broach that topic, as it is a very sensitive issue and certainly not my place to discuss it.”
Levy elaborated, “There were other subjects I could steer the conversation toward that might be intriguing to him and to the world, but that was one I wasn’t particularly interested in exploring.”
William and Harry, 41, have been estranged for years, a situation that intensified in 2020 when Harry and his wife, Meghan, 44, stepped back from their royal duties. Following their move from the U.K. to the U.S., the emotional and physical distance between the brothers became even more pronounced.
In January 2023, Harry shared some personal struggles with William in his memoir, Spare, including an alleged physical confrontation that occurred between the brothers over Meghan.
In the book, Harry stated that William referred to Meghan as “difficult” and “rude” during a visit in 2019, which led to the altercation. Despite the rift, Harry mentioned to ITV that he would “like to have my brother back” amid their ongoing family dispute.
While Harry has managed to reconcile with his father, King Charles III, during visits to England over recent years — despite their ongoing conflicts — his relationship with William appears stagnant.
“I believe Harry’s connection with his brother is markedly different from his relationship with his father,” royal expert Kristen Meinzer exclusively told Us Weekly in August. “But perhaps if Charles becomes more receptive to Harry, William may feel inclined to follow suit.”
However, a source revealed to Us at that time that “William no longer discusses Harry” and is reportedly “done” with his brother.
During his conversation with Levy on The Reluctant Traveler, in which they enjoyed a pint and explored Windsor Castle, William did mention his younger brother and briefly touched on family matters.
“I hope we don’t revert to some of the practices of the past that Harry and I had to endure,” William expressed to the Schitt’s Creek star regarding his vision for the kingdom after his father. “I will do everything within my power to ensure we don’t fall back into that. It’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Positive change.”
Later in the episode, William confided, “Issues related to family can overwhelm me significantly. Worry or stress regarding family matters tends to weigh heavily on me. However, as far as performing my duties is concerned, I don’t feel particularly overwhelmed at this point.”
The Reluctant Traveler is currently available for streaming on Apple TV+.
