What Cote de Pablo Hopes to See in Season 2 of NCIS: Tony and Ziva
In Season 1 of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, audiences were introduced to the beginnings of Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David’s love story — and actress Cote de Pablo already has ideas about what should unfold next.
Though the Paramount+ series has yet to secure a renewal for a second season, de Pablo, 45, is eager for more. She exclusively shared with Us Weekly that she envisions a shift in focus towards a different relationship in future episodes.
“I’d love to explore the strength of Tali, especially how she embodies traits from both her mother and father,” remarked de Pablo about her character Ziva and partner Tony’s (Michael Weatherly) daughter, Tali (Isla Gie). “It would be wonderful to delve deeper into her character and invest more energy into that.”
Although Ziva and Tony reignited their romance — with Tali’s approval — during the finale on Thursday, October 23, de Pablo is keen on showcasing the development of female friendships in a potential Season 2.
She reminisced about Episode 6, where the bond between their nanny Sophie (Lara Rossi), a former MI6, and Tali was illustrated, especially considering Sophie’s undisclosed past with Ziva. This mystery is one that de Pablo is eager to explore.
“I often wondered what transpired between Ziva and Sophie that created such profound loyalty. What earned that trust?” she shared. “I’d love to delve into that narrative and analyze it from a storytelling perspective. There are numerous compelling characters in the show, and I would enjoy exploring their individual arcs and quirks.”

De Pablo hinted that certainly, if a second season happens, viewers will need to witness Tony and Ziva “face challenges,” as that is intrinsic to their dynamic.
“I truly believe that their past will continually resurface and challenge them. They will have to confront these ghosts and somehow rely on each other, trusting each other as they build this family,” she disclosed to Us.
In the Season 1 finale, Tony and Ziva succeeded in clearing their names with Interpol after being wrongfully implicated in the crimes of corrupt agent Jonah (Julian Ovenden). Beyond the case, they chose to reignite their romantic relationship.

To reignite their romance, Ziva presented Tony with a framed photo of his deceased friend Henry (James D’Arcy), who had perished while aiding their family earlier in the season.
“Just as I thought my affection for you couldn’t grow more, you surprise me again,” Tony remarked to Ziva, who responded, “You keep it together, big daddy; there’s more to come.”
The episode wrapped with an intimate kiss between the couple, accompanied by a montage of their romantic journey throughout the season.

The season concluded on a joyful note, and if de Pablo has her way, such happiness will persist into another season.
“Michael and I are eager to continue, but ultimately it’s not our decision,” de Pablo hinted to Us, “At this stage, it’s truly about the fans.”
NCIS: Tony & Ziva is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
