Where Are the Absentia Cast Members Now? Stana Katic’s Role in the Cancelled Series
Stana Katic’s once-overlooked crime thriller series Absentia has emerged as an unexpected streaming phenomenon, four years post-cancellation.
The former Castle star led three seasons of the Prime Video series as FBI special agent Emily Byrne, whose enigmatic disappearance during a murder investigation sent shockwaves through the bureau. After miraculously returning with no recollection of her six years in captivity, she faced complex family dynamics and a new wave of violent crimes.
Katic, who also served as an executive producer for Absentia, announced in May 2021 that a fourth season would not be produced, declaring that “three seasons was the perfect amount of space for a beautiful, complicated, and wonderfully fulfilling journey.”
Fast forward more than four years, all three seasons of Absentia transitioned from Prime Video to Netflix, where the series broke into the top 10 viewership rankings at its new streaming platform.

Stana Katic
Katic informed fans in May 2021 that Absentia would not be making a return for a fourth season on Prime Video.
“We’ve considered the idea of continuing the story; Absentia was always intended to have just 3 seasons, and I couldn’t envision a better way to conclude… for anyone on this planet, especially Emily and her loved ones,” she shared on Instagram.
She further added, “I’m proud of our team for devoting themselves to this project to bring life to Absentia. Thank you to Sony, Amazon, AXN, Showcase, and all affiliates for supporting our unique show.”
In June 2022, a representative for the actress confirmed to Us Weekly that she and husband Kris Brkljac had welcomed their first child quietly the previous year.
“They had a baby this winter and have been cherishing their time together as a family,” the spokesperson shared.
Katic has been busy voicing Wonder Woman in three Justice League animated films and made a guest appearance on Fox’s Murder in a Small Town in 2024.
Matthew Le Nevez
Le Nevez portrayed FBI Special Agent Cal Isaac. After Absentia, he returned to Australia to take part in Celebrity MasterChef Australia, finishing in eighth place. He also made a guest appearance on the Australian lifestyle series Luxury Escapes: The World’s Best Holidays in 2023.
He and his partner, Michelle Smith, welcomed a son, Levi, in 2014, and a daughter, Wren, in 2017.
Patrick Heusinger
Heusinger played Emily’s husband, Special Agent Nick Durand, who remarried during the six years since his wife’s disappearance. The Gossip Girl alum subsequently made guest appearances in Comedy Central sitcom Corporate, the long-running procedural Law & Order, and AMC’s crime drama Parish.
In 2025, Heusinger was cast in the stage adaptation of the horror film series Paranormal Activity.
He celebrated Absentia‘s achievement of hitting #2 on Netflix’s streaming chart in November 2025 with an effusive message on his Instagram Story.
“#2 baby, we coming for ya,” he wrote.
Cara Theobold
The Downton Abbey alum faced off with Katic’s Emily in Absentia as Nick’s second wife, Alice. After Absentia concluded, she featured in the romantic comedy Promises on the big screen.
The British actress has also made appearances in popular U.K. series like Death in Paradise and Manhunt, alongside securing a recurring role in BBC Three’s teen drama Boarders.
Neil Jackson
Jackson starred in Absentia as Emily’s troubled older brother, Jack. He later appeared alongside Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson in the 2021 spy comedy blockbuster The King’s Man.
Most recently, he took on the role of the DC Comics supervillain Icicle in The CW’s Stargirl and had a guest appearance on Tracker in 2024.
In April 2024, Jackson confirmed via Instagram that he had wed “the love of [his] life,” Kim Jackson.
“Seeing her walk down our makeshift aisle in the foothills of the mountains was one of the proudest moments of my life,” he expressed. “Thank you for loving me @kim.rae.jackson. ‘I do,’ a thousand times over ‘I do’ xxx.”
Angel Bonanni
Bonanni portrayed Boston police detective Tommy Gibbs during the first two seasons of Absentia. The Uruguayan-Israeli actor has recently appeared in Emile Hirsch’s 2023 action film The Engineer and returned to Prime Video for a recurring role in the crime-drama El Cid.
Bonanni and his wife, Andrea Leitersdorf, welcomed two children following their marriage in 2014.

Ineson appeared in Absentia season one as Special Agent Adam Radford, the formidable head of Boston’s FBI field office. He is also known for his role as Amycus Carrow in the Harry Potter series, as well as portraying the crude traveling salesman Chris Finch in the original British version of The Office.
Post-Absentia, Ineson featured in horror hits like The First Omen, Nosferatu, and Frankenstein, and landed a role as the Marvel Comics villain Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Ineson and his wife, Ali Milner, have two children, one of whom is The Essex Serpent and The Northman actress Rebecca Ineson.
