The actress announced in March 2023 her departure from the medical drama after nearly ten years.
“After nine seasons, I’m bidding farewell to Maggie Pierce and the Grey Sloan family,” she shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Being part of such an iconic show as Grey’s Anatomy has been a significant honor. I am immensely thankful to Shonda Rhimes, Krista Vernoff, and ABC for this opportunity, and to the amazing fans for their unwavering support.”
The Castle star expressed her deep appreciation for her experience on the show, stating that portraying Maggie Pierce was “one of the real joys of my life.”
She added: “Spending nine years developing a character and sharing impactful stories with a worldwide audience is a rare privilege. It has allowed me to collaborate with and be inspired by numerous incredible artists both in front of and behind the camera… I look forward to this new chapter and the adventures that lie ahead.”
McCreary later reflected on her journey with Grey’s via Instagram, saying, “9 seasons, 200 episodes, many heroic surgeries, countless brave patients, delightful sister moments, one episode with my real sister, experiences of loss and grief, some ghostly encounters, several romantic relationships, two beautiful weddings, emotional breakdowns, one high-speed chase, awkward dinner parties, one punch received (and one thrown), at least one pratfall, loads of tears, endless laughter, mastering medical jargon, friendships for life, many collaborators who fostered my growth as an artist, one grateful heart, and one enormous THANK YOU. What an adventure! 🥹♥️🙏🏾.”
