White Lotus Season 3 Finale: Key Unresolved Questions
The White Lotus provided answers to many of our questions in the season 3 finale — but not everything was resolved.
In the episode that aired on Sunday, April 6, it was revealed that Rick (Walton Goggins) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) were the unfortunate guests who didn’t survive. After encountering Sritala (Lek Patravadi)’s husband once more, Rick was unable to curb his desire for vengeance — only to discover that Jim (Scott Glenn) was actually his biological father.
While most of the plotlines were wrapped up, certain threads remain unanswered — including the backstory of The Ratliffs and Mook’s possible involvement in the robberies. It appears that creator Mike White still has some clarifications to provide, although he has thus far directed his attention to future projects.
In a featurette that aired post-finale, White offered a glimpse of what’s next, stating, “I want to move beyond the crashing waves against rocks metaphor. But there’s still space for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
Keep reading for all the questions that still linger:
What Was the Deal With Kate and Victoria’s History?
Do you recall the awkward exchange between Kate (Leslie Bibb) and Victoria (Parker Posey) at the start of their trip? What was that all about? Some viewers speculated that the interaction was simply intended to showcase Kate’s overly friendly demeanor in contrast to Victoria’s suspicious nature, but others believe there must be more to it.
Many fans thought Kate was hinting at Timothy’s (Jason Isaacs) presence at the resort amidst his business troubles, as she was depicted using her phone multiple times.
How Genuine Was the Digital Detox?
Speaking of phones, The Ratliffs struggled to disconnect from their devices, yet it seemed everyone else retained theirs! From Chelsea to Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), Laurie (Carrie Coon), and Kate, the same restrictions didn’t appear to apply to them.
Did everyone else simply refuse to surrender their phones? Or was The White Lotus staff aware that the Ratliffs particularly needed a break?
Did Mook Know About the Robberies?
In a fleeting moment, Mook (Lalisa Manobal) appeared to let her guard down while Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) wasn’t watching, raising suspicion about her true intentions and what she really knew about the happenings at The White Lotus.
Gaitok didn’t expose Valentin (Arnas Fedaravicius) and his friends for their involvement in the robbery due to his promotion, but should he be considering Mook instead? Is it possible she is more aware than she pretends to be? It seems Gaitok might have to wait for another robbery at The White Lotus to find out.
Will Jaclyn Come Clean About Her One Night Stand?
After Laurie’s heartfelt speech about discovering purpose in life — and a near-death encounter — will Jaclyn feel compelled to confess her fling with Valentin to her new husband? Or does what happens in Thailand stay in Thailand?
Was Staying in Thailand — or Anywhere Else — Not an Option for the Ratliffs?
It seemed the Ratliff credit cards were still functioning when Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) was selecting jewelry for herself, so why didn’t they use their remaining funds to start anew elsewhere — ideally in a location with different extradition laws?
And why didn’t we get to see the family’s complete reaction when they learned they were broke? The White Lotus may have experienced theft this season, but viewers were shortchanged by not witnessing what we can only imagine would be Posey’s unforgettable meltdown upon discovering her financial ruin.
Will We See Greg Again?
Some viewers were convinced that Greg would be the one to meet his end, thus serving justice for Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge). Could Jon Gries return in season 4 — or are we led to believe he’s genuinely going to allow Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) to enjoy her happily ever after?
How Has The White Lotus Avoided Legal Troubles?
First, it was Armond (Murray Bartlett) at the White Lotus in Hawaii, then Tanya in Italy, and now Jim, Rick, and Chelsea at the Thailand location. Are we the only ones wondering if there should be an investigation into these resorts?
