Whitney Port Shares That Her Surrogate Experienced a Miscarriage ‘Last Month’
Whitney Port and her spouse, Tim Rosenman, are contemplating their next steps regarding fertility after their surrogate experienced a recent miscarriage.
“We chose to pursue surrogacy at the end of last year following a long journey of difficulties in conceiving and experiencing numerous setbacks,” Port, 40, shared during the Thursday, April 3, episode of her “With Whit” podcast. “We found a wonderful surrogate, but unfortunately, both transfers resulted in miscarriages.”
As per the The Hills alum, the “last miscarriage occurred just a month ago.”
“It’s important to note that both miscarriages happened after 7 and a half weeks, at which point we were told we had a 97 percent chance of having a successful pregnancy,” Rosenman, 43, remarked. “Experiencing back-to-back losses with those odds is really unusual. We’re now considering whether there might be an issue with either the surrogate or our embryos.”
Currently, Port and Rosenman are determining their next moves on this journey.
“We’re at a new starting point again,” Port explained. “We still have three embryos available, two of which are tested and one untested. We’re contemplating, ‘Should we seek a new lab?’ or ‘Do we undergo another egg retrieval to create new embryos? Are all the embryos from the previous batch not viable, or do we attempt implantation with one of the embryos that’s already been transferred to the surrogate?’”
Port emphasized that she and her husband are “not completely starting over” since they have several embryos frozen.
“We’re working with an excellent agency that’s assisting us throughout our surrogacy journey,” Port noted. “Although we’re not back to square one, each miscarriage makes it feel that way.”
The reality television star and Rosenman, who tied the knot in 2015, welcomed their son Sonny in July 2017. Since then, they have encountered several pregnancy losses before deciding to explore surrogacy in 2023.
“I dealt with secondary infertility, and the journey to have a second child has been incredibly taxing both physically and mentally,” Port shared with Us Weekly in July 2023 regarding their decision to use a gestational carrier. “As of now, we’re fully engaged in the surrogacy process and have embryos stored.”
She also expressed, “It’s just a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a whole ordeal.”
Port disclosed on her podcast in November 2023 that they had found a surrogate, but she suffered two miscarriages after the embryo transfer.
Throughout this fertility journey, Port has found support from Rosenman.
“It’s so overwhelming,” she remarked on Thursday. “I’m extremely thankful that you’re such a wonderful partner in this with me, but it saddens me for those who may not have someone like you to support them during these times.”
