Whoopi Goldberg Explains Why She Gave Up Wearing a Bra 50 Years Ago

No bra? No worries for Whoopi Goldberg.

In the episode of The View aired on Tuesday, May 20, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin engaged in a lively discussion about the optimal approach to wearing the undergarment.

“You know what I feel like doing right now?” Behar, 82, asked her fellow hosts. “I feel like letting these girls loose. Back up.”

The audience burst into laughter as the comedian shared an unexpected fact: her longtime friend and cohost doesn’t wear a bra.

Whoopi Goldberg has a unique view on wearing jeans at the gym. During a discussion on the Tuesday, November 14, episode of The View, Alyssa Farah Griffin mentioned that a friend told her Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — recently in the news for using an airplane bathroom barefoot — works out in denim. […]

“[Whoopi] liberated those girls a long time ago,” she said with a chuckle. While Hostin, 56, was quick to label bras as “torture devices,” Goldberg, 69, shared her perspective.

“I don’t wear one. I haven’t worn a bra in 50 years,” she stated during a “Hot Topics” segment. “It’s too uncomfortable, and I don’t mind if they hit the floor! They’re mine.”

Goldberg then stood up from her chair, joking about how she addresses her breasts when they sag.

“This is what you do. You’re walking and then you go, ‘Hey girl,’” she quipped, mimicking the action of kicking something off the ground to her body.

When Griffin, 35, inquired about where she places her microphone during live shows, Goldberg pointed to her black tank top, serving as her makeshift holder.

The conversation was sparked when The View shared a clip from the “Reasonably Shady” podcast, featuring The Real Housewives of Potomac stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon discussing the correct way to don a bra.

While Goldberg’s latest fashion statement might come as a revelation to some, the Oscar winner is candid about her views on attire. Although she enjoys dressing up for special events like the Met Gala or awards shows, her everyday focus is on comfort.

“I wish I could say it’s profound, but it’s really not,” she shared with People in March when discussing her fashion philosophy. “If it fits and it’s comfortable, I wear it.”
