Whose Line Is It Anyway? Star Colin Mochrie Faces Emergency Surgery

Who’s Line Is It Anyway? alum Colin Mochrie is recovering from a detached retina that required emergency surgery.

Mochrie, 68, underwent surgery on Friday, January 2, as announced by the team behind his show, HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis, via a post on Instagram.

“We regret to announce that our upcoming shows will be postponed due to a medical situation involving Colin Mochrie,” stated “The Hyprov Team.”

The message further explained, “Colin has been diagnosed with a detached retina and is undergoing emergency eye surgery today. His medical team is hopeful for a full recovery, but he will need time to rest and heal.”

Tracy Morgan faced a health scare while attending a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. The actor, 56, was spotted being wheeled out of the arena on March 17, with footage circulating online showing him covering his face as staff attended to him.

The post indicated that the team is “working on rescheduling” Mochrie’s postponed performances at the OLG Stage in Niagara Falls, Ontario, for January 2 and January 3. Ticket holders unable to attend the new dates will be eligible for refunds.

“Colin is incredibly thankful for your support and well wishes,” the note said. “He looks forward to returning to the stage and sharing many more laughs with everyone soon.”

Mochrie’s supporters shared their messages of encouragement in the comments section.

“Colin is a national treasure. Wishing him a smooth recovery,” wrote one fan, while another added, “Sending love and quick healing to Colin … thank you for keeping us updated otherwise we would’ve been more concerned about his condition… ❤️”

Us Weekly has reached out to Colin’s manager, Jeff Abraham, for comment. Earlier, Abraham announced to USA Today that Mochrie is “resting” post-surgery and included a statement from Mochrie thanking everyone for their support. “I’m really looking forward to seeing you all very soon.”

Mochrie is set to resume his Asking for Trouble Tour with fellow comic Brad Sherwood starting January 30 in Waukegan, Illinois, according to his website and will continue with seven additional dates in the U.S. until October 15.

Having been a mainstay on Who’s Line Is It Anyway? since its debut on ABC from 1998 to 2006, which was revived on the CW in 2013, Mochrie has also appeared in Canadian sitcoms like Getting Along Famously and She’s the Mayor. His extensive TV credits include Murdoch Mysteries, Degrassi Takes Manhattan, and The Drew Carey Show.

He added that the camaraderie among his Whose Line Is It Anyway? co-stars worked well because they don’t spend sufficient time together to irritate each other.
