Why Dakota Johnson Chooses to Keep Her Iconic Hairstyle
Dakota Johnson has no plans to switch up her hairstyle anytime soon.
During a chat with Etalk on Wednesday, August 20, Johnson, 35, discussed her signature look and the acclaim she receives as “hair goals” from fans who love her dark brown locks and wispy bangs.
“Oh, God. You know what? I’m obviously physically attached to my hair, but I’m very emotionally attached to it,” Johnson shared. “I probably should change things up, but I don’t think I will.”
She has maintained her iconic style in several film roles, including Fifty Shades of Grey, Materialists, and her latest role in Splitsville.
The genius behind her bangs is Mark Townsend, who has collaborated with Johnson for over ten years. Their partnership began when she was cast as Anastasia Steele in the blockbuster Fifty Shades, which premiered in 2015.
In May, he told Vogue that their objective is to create a look that is “touchable and never overdone.”
“Just young and fresh,” he added, emphasizing that they want her hair to appear lively. “We never want her hair to resemble newscaster hair, where everything is perfectly in place,” he noted. “We’re not afraid of a little flyaway here and there. If there’s a breeze, I want the hair to flow with it!”
“I always aim for it to look like she woke up, brushed her hair, and went out the door, but it does require a bit of effort, especially now that her hair is so long,” Townsend remarked.
Alongside her bangs, Johnson often sports her hair down in a sleek blowout. Townsend once suggested she try a ponytail for an event, but the actress insisted on keeping it down.
“In the end, she actually attended the event with a scrunchie on her wrist, just in case she wanted to secure it in a ponytail,” he recalled. “And actually, halfway through, she did.”
