Why Donna Farizan Departed the Show After 12 Years
Donna Farizan is bidding farewell to the Today show after a remarkable 12-year journey.
“I’m taking on new challenges to explore fresh and exciting opportunities that lie ahead for me professionally,” Farizan, 34, shared with Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie during her appearance on Jenna & Friends on Monday, September 8.
In a letter addressed to herself, which was featured on the show’s website, she reflected on the invaluable lessons learned throughout her tenure.
“The moment has arrived to embark on my next chapter. While the unknown may be daunting, it is equally thrilling, so let’s welcome it,” she expressed. “Since my college days, with aspirations for television internships, I didn’t foresee where my path would lead, but I understood the importance of following my curiosity and passion. I forged a journey that enriched my personal growth.”
She continued, “I believe in the power of dreams, in romanticizing life, and in holding onto hope for a future that shines bright, even if it remains unseen.”
Farizan described Today as her “home away from home,” expressing her gratitude for the “friendships” and “memories” cultivated during her time there.
“The greatest joy from this chapter has been connecting with the viewers I’ve met and those I still have yet to meet,” she wrote. “Success is a collaborative effort, and I’m proud of this team I’ve been a part of. I’ll carry these lessons with me, spread my wings, and remind myself that I can always return to say hello.”
Farizan also shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about her experiences at Today, reminiscing with some nostalgic throwback videos.

Sending virtual hugs and kisses!” she noted in an Instagram post on Monday. “I hope you’ll watch the clips until the end (don’t worry, each one is only a minute long) because every word was significant for me to share on @jennaandfriends, and I’ve linked my full letter in my bio.”
The official social media account for Jenna & Friends also honored Farizan’s contributions, stating, “Today we say goodbye to our wonderful friend, Donna. She’s filled our lives with joy, warmth, and unforgettable stories. We wish her all the success and love in her next endeavors.”
