Why Jamie Otis is Hesitant About Husband Doug Hehner Getting a Vasectomy
Married at First Sight couple Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner are currently discussing when to adopt a more permanent method of birth control.
“My husband is considering a vasectomy, but I’m hesitant about putting such a definite end to our journey of starting a family,” Otis, 39, expressed through Instagram on Friday, February 27. “We faced numerous challenges in getting pregnant and expanding our family. After multiple losses and years of trying, we never lost hope, and look at where we are today.”
Otis and Hehner, 42, tied the knot in 2014, having met on their wedding day during the inaugural season of MAFS. Otis experienced a miscarriage two years later after discovering she was expecting a son they named Jonathan.
In 2017, Otis welcomed her first rainbow baby, daughter Henley. The couple later had son Hendrix in 2020 and twins Huxley and Hawkins in 2024, following previous pregnancy losses.
“Bringing life into the world is a true miracle,” Otis added on Friday. “I am grateful to God for allowing me to bear and deliver four beautiful babies on earth and one in heaven.🙏🏻❤️ Come on, hubby, what’s one more?!?”
The Bachelor alum emphasized that whether Hehner undergoes a vasectomy will be a joint decision reflecting their shared desires for family planning.
“I cannot believe how upset I made people by mentioning Doug’s vasectomy,” Otis remarked in a later Instagram Stories video. “It ultimately depends on whether or not we have [more] kids together. That’s a conversation we need to have together.”
Hehner was seen in the background of Otis’ video, nodding in agreement.
Otis also mentioned that any decision regarding a vasectomy or a tubal ligation should be mutual since it “affects [their] entire family.”
Until they reach their decision, Otis and Hehner are busy parenting their four children.
“We already have two kids, so we’re well aware of the chaos that comes with a baby,” Otis exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2024. “Now, expecting twins, we know we need to be ready. It’s going to get a bit wild with two newborns, so I wanted to create a calm and serene nursery.”
After adjusting to life with her 12-month-old twins, Otis keeps fans in the loop about her family on social media.
“Nothing fills my mommy heart with more joy than watching my kids bond and play together,” she gushed on Instagram earlier this month. “Hendrix has struggled to learn how to be gentle and engage with the twins properly. They would often push him away because he was a bit too rough and loud. He truly thought they didn’t like him, which broke my heart.”
Otis continued, “[Hendrix] has been incredibly patient with [the twins] and has never stopped trying to engage with them. He is continually learning what they enjoy so they won’t push him away, and it’s heartwarming to see his gentle persistence paying off.”
