Why Khloe Kardashian Decided to Limit Her Use of Photoshop in Photos

Khloé Kardashian is embracing her unfiltered side.

Kardashian, 41, addressed allegations that she “Photoshops every picture” she shares on social media in the Thursday, July 17 episode of her podcast “Khloé in Wonderland,” revealing that she typically doesn’t—at least not anymore.

“There was a time when I definitely did,” said the Good American founder. “I was surrounded by individuals who made me feel like I needed to. Plus, it was the trend then; I think many people were using aggressive Photoshop techniques more than they do now.”

Kardashian elaborated, “I feel like there was a period where we all got caught up in this filter lifestyle and lost sight of ourselves without one. There are days when I think, ‘ugh, I need a filter.’ I might not feel confident, but I do prefer how I look on video compared to still photos.”

Kardashian confessed that she doesn’t consider herself the “most photogenic” but often “takes hundreds of photos to find the one I like.”

“That’s perfectly fine. I’m allowed to do that. But I must admit there was a time I heavily relied on Photoshop,” she added.

Looking back on her Photoshopped images, Kardashian humorously remarked that she resembled a “cartoon character” in many of them.

“It’s embarrassing that I believed that was a true version of myself,” she admitted.

“I regret thinking I had to look that way,” Kardashian continued. “I was influenced by those around me who did the same. If they took my picture, they’d edit it before handing it back to me. I’d think, ‘That’s how I look.’ When I encountered paparazzi, I’d think, ‘I don’t look like that. I look like this photo.’ I had to rewire my thoughts, realizing, ‘OK, let’s ease off the filters. This isn’t real. That’s not my true self, and I don’t want to look like that.’ It was a bizarre time.”

Kardashian concluded that she used to be “caught up in the filter world, trying to alter my face to something it just wasn’t.”

As for how she captures great photos on social media these days, Kardashian emphasized the importance of “good lighting.”

“I definitely take more controlled photos with good lighting, and I might snap several to find the ones I like. But I don’t feel the need to Photoshop every single picture,” she said.

The mother of two, who shares children True, 7, and Tatum, 2, with ex Tristan Thompson, has faced accusations from fans about using Photoshop multiple times in the past. In April 2022, Kardashian admitted that her photos of True from April 2021 at Disneyland had been edited.
