What is the story behind tonight’s ‘Dateline’?
“Deadly Obsession,” the latest episode of “Dateline,” narrates the tragic story of Topeka, Kansas couple Mike Sisco and Karen Harkness.
In March, a jury found Dana Chandler, Sisco’s ex-wife, guilty of two counts of murder during the third trial regarding the murders of Sisco and Harkness.
Chandler was arrested in 2011, nine years after the murders, and convicted in 2012, but the Kansas Supreme Court later overturned the conviction, citing that the prosecutor had misled the jury. The jury was unable to reach a verdict in the second trial in 2022.
The episode features interviews with Mike Sisco’s mother Carol Sisco, his daughter Hailey Seel, sister Cathy Boots, and brother-in-law Mark Boots; Karen Harkness’ daughter Erin Harkness Sutton and son Chad Harkness; former Topeka police sergeant Richard Volle; Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay; and others.
