Yellowjackets Star Samantha Hanratty Back at the Hospital with Her Newborn

Yellowjackets actress Samantha Hanratty returned to the hospital with her 1-month-old son weeks following his cleft lip surgery.

“Having to go back to the hospital again with my little one,” Hanratty, 29, shared on Instagram Story on Tuesday, February 18. “We appreciate all the prayers and positivity you can send our way.”

Hanratty, who welcomed her newborn with husband Christian DeAnda, expressed hope that this would be their final hospital visit, stating, “Praying for no more setbacks so he can heal properly.”

Before her son’s birth, the actress was open about her pregnancy struggles. “My baby is expected to be born with a cleft lip. We’re not entirely sure, and we probably won’t know for sure until he arrives, whether he has a cleft palate,” she mentioned in December 2024 via Instagram. “His cleft extends all the way up to the nose.”

Hanratty and DeAnda were ready for their son to go through several procedures.

“When he’s three weeks old, he’ll undergo his first surgery to close up the cleft,” she shared during that time. “We’ve been mindful of our language around it. There’s nothing that needs to be fixed or that’s wrong; it’s just open for now, and once it’s closed, he’ll have a big smile that will be a little smaller.”

While Hanratty admitted to feeling moments of “sadness,” she expressed excitement for her baby’s arrival. She recalled, “Once, my husband and I were crying about it in bed, and [he] went to lay on my stomach and kicked my husband so hard. [Christian] said, ‘Okay, buddy. You’re gonna be fine,’ indicating that there’s nothing to worry about.”

Earlier this month, Hanratty provided exclusive updates about her son’s surgical journey to Us Weekly.

“We were uncertain if the cleft would be in the palate,” she shared. “Fortunately, it wasn’t, which means fewer surgeries for him, and I’m grateful for that. He’s doing very well and already had his surgery at two weeks old. He’s such a brave little one.”

Hanratty also discussed her decision to refrain from showcasing her son on social media. “It’s a challenging choice since I expected it to be straightforward. I want to reveal how beautiful he is to the world. But if I can protect him at all costs, that’s my priority,” she elaborated. “He’s perfect, especially with his cleft. I believe there are many questions surrounding this issue and a lack of understanding about cleft lips and palates. I aim to help destigmatize it. It’s so common, and the cleft community is incredibly supportive and kind. I feel so fortunate.”
