Young Eagles Fan Goes Viral After Interview, Wishes Coach Would Work at McDonald’s
The city known for its brotherly love was certainly feeling the opposite after the Philadelphia Eagles were eliminated from the playoffs in a home loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Following the Eagles’ 23-19 defeat to the 49ers on Sunday, January 11, which dashed their hopes of back-to-back Super Bowl victories, a 6ABC Philadelphia reporter caught up with a young fan named Sam Salvo as he exited Lincoln Financial Field.
“This is a massive letdown. This was my Christmas gift, and I ended up with a loss!” stated Salvo.
When asked if he would have preferred coal in his stocking instead, Salvo replied, “Yeah, probably.”
The young fan shared that he was experiencing “two main feelings” and specifically targeted one of the Eagles’ wide receivers and the offensive coordinator.
“I want A.J. Brown to pack his bags and leave—anywhere but here,” Salvo said. “I love you, A.J., but those drops can’t happen in that game.”
Brown, 28, managed just three receptions for 25 yards on eight targets against the 49ers, including a crucial drop on a third down late in the game.
“I also think Kevin Patullo should be flipping burgers at the local McDonald’s or something,” Salvo remarked about the Eagles’ offensive coordinator. “I don’t care.”
When asked why he thought fast food might be Patullo’s next stop, Salvo explained, “When he’s offensive coordinating, it’s like he’s flipping burgers. One half, he cooks. The other half is totally undercooked.”
As they processed their disappointment, Eagles fans found solidarity in Salvo’s candid remarks.
“This kid embodies every Philadelphia Eagles fan’s feelings right now,” one commenter noted on the video shared by reporter Briana Smith on Facebook. “He is a star in the making.”
Another added, “That little guy already has 25 years of experience.”
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni responded to the performances of both Brown and Patullo after the game.
“He’s got the best hands I’ve ever seen,” Sirianni remarked about Brown, who was seen having words with him on the sidelines during the game. “The variety of catches he makes is remarkable. When you’re targeted as much as he is, drops are going to happen. I’m not making excuses, but the wind affects the ball. I thought [quarterback] Jalen [Hurts] did well in managing that, but we had some uncharacteristic drops.”
When discussing Patullo, Sirianni stated the offseason would be a chance to “evaluate everyone’s performance.”
“Right now, I feel for everyone in the locker room, the players, the coaches, the front office, and the fans who support us, especially Mr. [team owner Jeffrey] Lurie,” Sirianni emphasized. “I feel for all of us, and there will be time to evaluate everything soon.”
The 49ers have advanced to the NFC Divisional Round, where they will take on the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, January 17.
