Naomi Watts Honors Her Son’s 18th Birthday with Heartfelt Tribute
Naomi Watts is feeling emotional as she marks her son’s significant birthday.
The 56-year-old actress took to Instagram on Friday, July 25, to share an endearing message and some photos of Sasha as he celebrates his 18th birthday via Instagram.
“Happy birthday sweet, darling @sashapeteschreiber,” her post began. “18 today—and ready to embrace the world! I can hardly believe it.😊😭 It has been such a joy watching you transform into the kindest, most remarkable young man. Thank you for making me a first-time mom.”
Along with her touching note, Watts shared both recent and throwback images featuring herself and Sasha. One particular photo captures her cradling baby Sasha, while another appeared to be from her second wedding to husband Billy Crudup in 2024.
Watts shares Sasha and their 16-year-old daughter Kai with ex-partner Liev Schreiber, whom she separated from in 2016 after 11 years together. They have maintained a supportive co-parenting relationship.
“We approach things quite differently now. I’m genuinely proud of our progress, cheesy as that might sound,” Watts expressed in a 2019 interview with Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine. “We have prioritized being kind and good to one another, and we remain fully dedicated to that.”
Schreiber, 57, also has a daughter, Hazel Bee, who is 23 months old, with his wife, Taylor Neisen, whom he wed in July 2023. Crudup, also 57, has a son, William Atticus Parker, 21, with ex Mary-Louise Parker. The blended family recently came together to celebrate Sasha’s high school graduation in June.
Watts has started to share her experiences with infertility as she advocates for awareness around perimenopause. She revealed that she was nearing menopause at 36, which complicated her journey to conceive.
“The embarrassment seeped into every aspect of my life, as I wasn’t being open about my potentially fruitless attempts to get pregnant, which consumed every spare moment and occupied my thoughts,” she shared in her 2025 book, Dare I Say It.
Watts indicated that IVF was not an option due to her hormone levels, but she pursued fertility medications like Clomid and underwent procedures such as intrauterine insemination (IUI). “I would have done absolutely anything if it would help, even if that meant something outrageous. I meticulously tracked my ovulation and regularly monitored my temperature. I even had scans to check the follicles and eggs, ensuring we timed conception perfectly. Sadly, nothing worked,” she recounted.
Ultimately, she became pregnant but experienced a miscarriage. After several more months, she welcomed Sasha in 2007, followed by Kai in 2008.
This year, Watts celebrated a memorable Mother’s Day with her children, sharing a lovely photo from their outing and expressing, “My heart is so full. Thank you @sashapeteschreiber and @kaischreiberrr for giving me the gift of motherhood. And to Billy for making it a wonderful day. Feeling immensely grateful ♥️♥️♥️.”
Schreiber, for his part, is amazed at how mature his children have become.
“He doesn’t feel like my kid anymore; he feels like a man now, so this changes our dynamic,” the actor shared with People while attending the Cirque Du Soleil New York City premiere of Luzia together in March.
