Ana de Armas in Vermont: Small-Town Life and a Visit from Tom Cruise
Ana de Armas may be a well-known figure in Hollywood, but in the quaint Vermont town where she bought a home in 2022, she lives a relaxed and private lifestyle among friendly locals.
“I think it’s a wonderful town for her,” Zoë Zilian, proprietor of Au Comptoir in Woodstock, Vermont, shared exclusively with Us Weekly. “Interestingly, despite her celebrity status, many here aren’t really aware of it and they tend to stay out of that scene.”
Zilian describes de Armas as “lovely” and very approachable when she visits the speakeasy.
“You wouldn’t even associate her with stardom,” Zilian adds. “She fits in effortlessly, just like any other customer, and is a truly generous spirit. She is always pleasant, and we share wonderful conversations. She’s treated just like every other person here. We pride ourselves on providing excellent hospitality to everyone.”
Zilian emphasizes that de Armas is always very “personable” and enjoys engaging with the locals.
She also mentions that de Armas can “enjoy a quality life free from stress” in Woodstock.
De Armas acquired her property in the Green Mountain State for $7.2 million in November 2022, as reported by Realtor.com. She stated to E! News in September 2024 that she desired to escape “the chaos of the world.”
“We all want the opportunity to create our own sanctuary,” de Armas shared. “I found a home where I truly feel disconnected. I can recharge and only invite those I cherish. It’s my little cocoon.”
According to Zilian, the community in Woodstock is accustomed to having celebrities residing nearby.
“We’ve had Sandra Bullock visit a couple of times, which has been delightful,” Zilian notes, mentioning that Scarlett Johansson has also dropped by.
“She visits occasionally, and it feels just normal; they simply sit at the tables like any other customers. We all respect their privacy, which adds to the pleasant experience. It’s a small place, so it’s very personal,” she continues.
Even when de Armas was seen around town with boyfriend Tom Cruise on Sunday, July 27, Zilian affirmed that locals gave them their space.
“I haven’t personally seen them walking together, but if I did, it would just be a casual acknowledgment, like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting. I recognize them.’ But that’s as far as it goes,” she adds. “No one’s chasing after them for autographs; it’s just a different atmosphere here. It would be inappropriate to do so.”
“I believe everyone here is welcoming,” Zilian continues. “We’re thrilled that they can experience a sense of peace in a place that isn’t overwhelming, promoting a high quality of life that we value here.”
Regarding how de Armas might spend her days in Woodstock, Zilian mentions that the town features “a beautiful little hike up Mount Palm.” She also notes having seen de Armas enjoying time in local shops.
At Au Comptoir, de Armas has enjoyed the “Emerald Kiss” cocktail.
“It’s a cucumber-infused gin we craft in-house,” Zilian explains. “It’s incredibly light and low in alcohol, making it a refreshing and almost healthy option. It’s a lovely summer drink.”
