Sarah Jessica Parker Confronts Kristin Davis About Her Body Dysmorphia

Kristin Davis is candidly discussing her past challenges with body image and the insights of her Sex and the City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker regarding the matter.

During a recent episode of her podcast “Are You a Charlotte,” released on Monday, August 11, Davis, who is now 60, reflected on her struggles with “thinness” while filming the iconic HBO series. Parker, also 60, suggested, “you have body dysmorphia” when the topic arose, but Davis isn’t entirely convinced that her co-star was correct in her assessment.

“I don’t think I do,” she told guest Benito Skinner, explaining that she often feels the world is constantly reminding her, “I am pear-shaped.”

However, these discussions about her figure led to “disordered eating,” according to Davis. “You’re starving yourself. I remember fainting in a parking lot one time because I was on some crazy diet.”

She shared that during the show’s earlier season when it aired on “old-school televisions,” fans would approach her and reassure, “Oh, but you’re not fat.”

“I know they didn’t mean anything bad; they meant it as a compliment,” she said. “But it’s because I’m standing next to Sarah Jessica.”

Before stepping into the role of Charlotte York on Sex and the City in 1998, Davis portrayed Brooke Armstrong on Melrose Place. In February 2025, she revealed to People that her body was frequently a topic during filming, and at one point, she was even advised to maintain a specific weight.

Davis recounted a conversation with her former co-star Thomas Calabro in her trailer. “He’s like, ‘Kristin, I’m so happy to see you here,’” she remembered. “‘I just wanna tell you, I think you look great,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, thank you. What do you mean?’ He said, ‘Oh, I know the producers are really stressed, but I just think it’s amazing that we have a woman who has curves.’”

Davis expressed her confusion at this point. “I just think they shouldn’t, you know, put too much pressure on you,” Calabro reportedly continued, to which Davis responded, “What?”

Sex was certainly a key element in Sex and the City, but that doesn’t imply that Kristin Davis and her colleagues weren’t surprised by some of the scenarios they encountered. Davis, who portrayed Charlotte York for six seasons on the HBO series, recalled numerous shocking moments from season 1. While revisiting season 1, episode 6, […]

After her conversation with Calabro, Davis approached “the line producer.”

“I’m like, ‘Thomas Calabro just told me that you guys are stressing about my weight. Did someone say something? Did Mr. [Aaron] Spelling say something?’ And he was like, ‘We think you look beautiful,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, and?’ He goes, ‘Just don’t gain any weight,’” Davis recalled. “There was a general vibe on set, though, that was challenging regarding body image. Everyone was stunning and very thin. So, I felt that this is what I had to do.”
