Erin Bates’ Husband Shares Heartfelt Letter from Their Kids During Her Hospital Stay
Bringing Up Bates alum Erin Bates’ children are optimistic about her ongoing recovery following a battle with septic shock.
“Receiving a letter from your little girl after being in the hospital for weeks,” Bates’ husband, Chad Paine, wrote in a video on Instagram, showing himself reading a note from their 9-year-old daughter Brooklyn while she slept in her hospital bed.
In her heartfelt handwritten letter, Brooklyn expressed that she is “praying for” her mom’s recovery.
“I’m praying for you, and I hope I can see you soon,” Paine, 38, read aloud. “I love you, and I know you love me back. I wish I could see you now. I’ve been waiting every second — one, two, three — to see you.”
He went on, “Well, Mom, I know that no matter how long you are there, I’ll be right here waiting for you. … I will love you no matter what, and I know this is hard for both of us, but there is a good side to every situation. God didn’t promise it would be easy, but I believe you can get through this. I love you.”
Paine was visibly emotional as he pointed out that Brooklyn also drew a picture of her mom holding baby Henry, born in August.
“Be strong for them,” Paine softly said to Bates, kissing her cheek.
Bates responded, tearfully saying she “misses” her children.
“I miss them too,” her husband assured her.
In the post’s caption, Paine emphasized that they “never want to forget” Brooklyn’s touching letter.
“Being away from our children has been more difficult than we anticipated,” the caption expressed. “Our hearts ache to reunite.”
Bates was hospitalized last month after a severe UTI and kidney infection developed into septic shock. (Per the Cleveland Clinic, sepsis is a serious condition that may lead to organ failure, tissue damage, or even death.)
“She is still in the ICU as doctors continue to evaluate and treat her,” Paine wrote on Instagram on September 1. “We greatly appreciate your prayers for this radiant girl who brings light to a dark world. We are relying on God’s promises.”
Three days later, Bates experienced a severe seizure but began to slowly regain her strength.
“With tears in our eyes, we are thankful and praising the Lord that we are on the path to recovery,” Paine shared on Instagram on September 6. “Your prayers have genuinely touched heaven.”
Bates has recently been transferred to another medical facility for ongoing treatment.
