Is Port Wenn from Doc Martin a Real Place? Exploring the Location and Town
Fox’s reboot of Doc Martin, titled Best Medicine, is based in a fictional town called Port Wenn — but does this place actually exist?
According to the official synopsis, Best Medicine features a doctor who relocates from Boston, Massachusetts, to a small practice in an East Coast fishing village where he spent his childhood vacations.
Josh Charles stars as Dr. Martin Best, accompanied by a cast that includes Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Cree, Annie Potts, Didi Conn, Clea Lewis, Stephen Spinella, Jason Veasey, Cindy De La Cru, John DiMaggio, Carter Shimp, and the canine actor Wattson.
Although Port Wenn is portrayed as a quaint town in Maine, the actual filming took place in Cornwall, New York. During a set visit by Us Weekly for Best Medicine, Spencer discussed the change in locations.
“It’s nice. I’ve actually worked on several shows where I lived with my producer and co-stars. When I was on Rectify, we were in Georgia. It creates a sense of togetherness while making something,” the actress noted. “You become truly invested in the community. I’ve formed friendships with many local businesses. That’s part of our experience: investing in the community as well.”
