Kelly and Matthew Stafford Share Reasons for Occasionally Not Wearing Their Rings

Kelly and Matthew Stafford have their unique reasons for occasionally not wearing their wedding rings.

The topic came up on Kelly’s “The Morning After” podcast on Thursday, September 18, when she asked Matthew, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback, about a new trend among married players in the NFL.

“Have you noticed that men are starting to wear rubber rings during games?” Kelly, 36, asked. “Why don’t you?”

After a brief, awkward silence, Kelly chuckled and added, “Just kidding! I’m putting you on the spot. I respect that you don’t have to wear one, especially coming from me.”

“Sometimes my ring just stays upstairs,” Kelly shared. “With the kids, it’s a challenge keeping track of everything.”

After meeting at the University of Georgia, Kelly and Matthew, 37, tied the knot in April 2015 and are parents to four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8, Hunter, 7, and Tyler, 5.

Throughout their decade-long marriage, Matthew has experienced just one wedding ring mishap.

“I’ll give you credit; you’ve only lost your ring once,” Kelly mentioned.

Matthew remembered that he “misplaced” the ring in one of Kelly’s purses, which was later found “in a jewelry bag,” according to Kelly.

“That’s pretty impressive,” Kelly told him.

Kelly also celebrated her own track record, stating that she has “yet to lose a single piece of jewelry.”

“That’s not true,” Matthew countered. He called out his wife for misplacing “the three Cartier bracelets I got you.”

Matthew speculated that the bracelets are still “at the mall in Detroit,” where they lived during Matthew’s time with the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.

Kelly recalled that she “was getting those screws tightened, and I never picked them up.”

Matthew explained that the bracelets had special “locks” that were ultimately their downfall.

“The locks are why I was getting them fixed,” Kelly remarked. “The screws to the locks broke, and they kept falling off!”

Kelly added, “Someone has them. They’re engraved on the inside with our girls’ names because those were my push presents. I love a push present.”

Matthew replied, “Not enough to keep track of them.”

Earlier this year, Kelly candidly discussed how “f***ing hard” the early days of marriage can be.

“Anyone who says otherwise is f***ing lying through their teeth,” Kelly stated on her podcast on April 3.

Before getting married, Kelly shared, “You always put yourself first.”

“Then suddenly, you’re prioritizing someone else,” she elaborated. “With kids in the mix, it just grows tougher with every new challenge.”
