How Kate Middleton Paid Tribute to 5 Family Members Through Her Outfit
Kate Middleton made a striking appearance that combined sentiment with style.
The Princess of Wales, 43, effortlessly paid tribute to five family members— including her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana— while sporting a plaid pantsuit on Thursday, September 11, during her visit to the Sudbury Silk Mills in Suffolk, aimed at promoting the British textile industry.
She accessorized with one of her favorite pieces: the Daniella Draper Gold Fixed Alphabet necklace, priced around $495 before customizations, adorned with G, C, and L initial charms representing her children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
Observers noted that her outfit bore a striking resemblance to a look worn by the late Princess Diana nearly four decades earlier on September 10, 1989. However, Kate chose to wear a black top beneath her suit.
Additionally, her outfit subtly referenced her husband, Prince William. The suit was crafted by London-based designer Bella Freud and featured The Prince of Wales check, a classic pattern highlighted by InStyle.
It was reported that “the royal [King Edward VIII], who abdicated in 1936, was frequently seen wearing this pattern, becoming one of the first members of the royal family to resonate with the public as a fashion icon,” according to WWD.
She concluded her day with a visit to the Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent, showcasing her signature brunette hair after a brief phase with blonde locks.
Princess Diana’s former hairstylist Sam McKnight supported her light and bright look on Instagram after critics commented on her new hairstyle following her cancer battle (Kate announced her remission in January).
“A woman’s hair reflects her identity; it’s her armor, her confidence, and so much more,” he remarked following her health struggles.
“She has brilliantly represented our nation with grace and humility,” McKnight, 70, expressed. “Cancer impacts everyone differently; its effects can be life-changing. So please, let her have peace.”
Former royal butler Grant Harrold also praised Kate’s look, calling her “beautiful” with her blonde hair, further commenting, “She has endured a challenging time. Why should she not enjoy herself?”
