Ranking the Top 5 Most Anticipated Netflix Movies Coming This Fall 2025
Netflix has significantly enhanced its offerings in the original movie segment in recent years.
Last year gifted us the delightful rom-com Hit Man starring Glen Powell and the gripping action film Rebel Ridge. However, these titles may soon be overshadowed by what the streaming platform has lined up for the remainder of 2025.
As part of the Watch With Us team, I’ve curated my top 5 Netflix films that I cannot wait to see this fall.
Among my picks are a lavish retelling of a classic tale, a spine-chilling political thriller, and a sequel to one of the most acclaimed franchises currently active.
5. ‘Nouvelle Vague’ (November 14)
French cinema aficionados are in for a real treat this season with Richard Linklater, an American director, chronicling the making of one of the groundbreaking French films, Breathless, in his latest venture, Nouvelle Vague. Newcomer Guillaume Marbeck portrays Jean-Luc Godard, a prominent film critic eager to create his debut film.
Eager to shake up the 1950s French film scene, Godard aims to challenge norms and create a film that will alter the cinematic landscape. To achieve this, he must navigate numerous hurdles, including anxious investors, an unreliable production team, and a mysterious American actress, Jean Seberg (Zoey Deutch).
Filmed in stunning, era-appropriate black and white, Nouvelle Vague is unapologetically French while retaining Linklater’s signature playful, humorous style, ensuring it’s visually captivating. The more you understand about Godard and Breathless, the more you’ll value what this film presents — a delightful yet educational glimpse at one of the most groundbreaking films ever produced.
4. ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ (October 10)
Every year, a new interpretation of a best-selling mystery novel catches everyone’s attention. In 2025, that adaptation is The Woman in Cabin 10, a hit book by Ruth Ware, now transformed into a prominent Netflix original. Keira Knightley takes the lead as Laura Blacklock, a journalist on a luxury ocean liner for her latest assignment. Late one night, she witnesses another passenger being thrown overboard. Convinced of having seen a murder, Laura alerts the ship’s captain and crew, who quickly inform her that no one has gone missing.
Did Laura imagine it? Or is there a conspiracy underway to conceal a crime that no one wishes to investigate? Laura must employ her journalistic instincts to uncover the truth, but the answers may not align with what she desperately wants to discover.
Fans of the thrilling Jodie Foster film Flightplan and Emily Blunt‘s mystery The Girl on the Train will likely adore The Woman in Cabin 10, which promises more twists than a pretzel from Auntie Annie’s. Knightley is on a roll following 2023’s outstanding spy series Black Doves, making her a perfect fit for yet another mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
3. ‘A House of Dynamite’ (October 24)
When an unknown enemy launches a nuclear missile at Chicago, the U.S. government has mere minutes to respond. Who initiated the attack and to what end? Was it a mistake or a deliberate act? And in the event of an attack, how should the government react? Negotiate for peace, or engage in a nuclear war that the world has feared since the advent of atomic weaponry in the 1940s?
These pressing questions are posed in A House of Dynamite, a new political thriller from Kathryn Bigelow, an Oscar-winning director known for her superb work in The Hurt Locker. After its enthusiastic reception at the Venice Film Festival last month, it’s being touted as a serious contender for multiple Oscar nominations.
The film features a stellar cast including Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Kaitlyn Dever, Jonah Hauer-King, Anthony Ramos, and The Night Agent’s Gabriel Basso. But make no mistake — the true star here is Bigelow, who appears to have crafted another provocative film that will spark widespread discussion.
2. ‘Frankenstein’ (November 7)
The tale of the mad doctor Victor Frankenstein, who strives to play God by creating life from nothingness, is well-known, but never before has it been told in the manner of Netflix’s forthcoming adaptation. Thanks to director Guillermo del Toro, a horror enthusiast, his lifelong dream to bring Mary Shelley’s narrative to life on screen is finally realized.
In del Toro’s rendition, Oscar Isaac stars as the obsessive doctor determined to prove that life can be created using spare body parts, a perfectly timed lightning strike, and a dash of luck. While it’s no shock that Victor succeeds, is the Creature (Jacob Elordi) he produces a human, a monster, or a combination of both? With Mia Goth as Victor’s understandably concerned fiancée, Elizabeth, del Toro’s Frankenstein is set to honor the story’s Gothic horror origins while showcasing the director’s signature visual artistry and flair for melodrama. I’m eagerly awaiting its release.
1. ‘Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man’ (December 12)
Netflix subscribers are in for an early Christmas surprise as the third film in the Knives Out series, titled Wake Up Dead Man, premieres on December 12. In Rian Johnson’s latest sequel, master detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns to unravel yet another perplexing mystery. In a small church in upstate New York, a controversial preacher, Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), meets his unfortunate end, putting the entire town under suspicion.
Was it the other preacher Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor), who stands to benefit the most from Jefferson’s demise? Or perhaps it was devoted parishioner Matha Delacroix (Glenn Close), harboring a secret she’s determined to keep hidden? Other notable suspects include Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, among others.
The first two Knives Out films were immensely successful with audiences, and the upcoming third installment promises to continue delivering the same engaging mystery thrills. Following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, many critics hailed it as the finest Knives Out entry yet, so here’s hoping the third time truly is the charm for Benoit and his crew.
