Terri from The Golden Bachelor Responds to Whoopi Goldberg’s Remarks

The Golden Bachelor‘s Terri Alani has discovered that everyone has an opinion about reality television.

When the Texas dentist first met Mel Owens during the show’s memorable limo entrances, she chose to perform as a ventriloquist.

While Mel, 66, was charmed, some of the ladies on The View had differing opinions.

“I was scrolling through social media when I stumbled upon this segment with Whoopi Goldberg calling me out on national television for my puppet, labeling me as the ‘muppet woman,’” shared Terri, 71, exclusively with Us Weekly at The Golden Bachelor Gal’s Brunch in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 16. “I mean, ‘the muppet woman’? That’s an entirely new career for me, considering I’m a dentist.”

After the women of The Golden Bachelor took their turn roasting lead Mel Owens, now it’s host Jesse Palmer’s moment. “Mel Owens — the man tackled harder on the field than his fashion choices ever did on The Golden Bachelor,” Jesse, 46, told Entertainment Weekly after the October 1 episode, referencing the current season.

In Whoopi’s defense, it was actually cohost Sara Haines who dubbed Terri the muppet woman. Still, the Oscar-winning star wasn’t overly impressed by Terri’s striking entrance.

“I could see her lips moving,” Whoopi, 69, remarked during the September 25 episode of The View. “In ventriloquism, the ventriloquist’s lips shouldn’t be moving.”

Sunny Hostin chimed in, “I found it creepy.”

Addressing her feature on The View, Terri expressed that the buzz didn’t faze her.

“Honestly, I was more concerned about my lips moving, which she pointed out too, but I didn’t feel too bad since she couldn’t even pronounce ventriloquist,” Terri told Us. “So take that, Whoopi!”

Although Terri was eliminated in week three, she continues to support her friends as they vie for Mel’s final rose.

With Peg Munson, Debbie Siebers, and Cindy Angelcyk Cullers gearing up for hometown dates as the final three competitors, Terri mentioned she truly isn’t sure who Mel will choose as his winner.

“I’m friends with all of them, so regardless of who he selects, I’ll be fine with it. It’s fascinating because Peg and Cindy are polar opposites,” she stated. “Pig is bold and very outgoing, while Cindy has a more refined demeanor… and then there’s Debbie, who is a blend of both. If Cindy and Peg had a daughter, she’d be Debbie.”

One contestant who stood out in season 2 of The Golden Bachelor was Nicolle Kate Briscoe.

The yoga instructor from Miami Beach stirred some controversy when she kissed Mel in front of the other contestants. Her bold confessional interviews also captured the attention of viewers at home.

Ultimately, Nicolle, 64, and Terri have mended fences and moved past any prior drama.

“We actually cleared things up, but I was quite surprised by her antics off-camera because in the house, she was wonderful. She was very kind,” Terri explained. “I wasn’t sure of her intentions with the interviews—maybe it was to gain more screen time—but Nicolle’s not a bad person.”

The Golden Bachelor airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
