What Sofia Pernas’ Return as Tracker Means for Justin Hartley’s Romantic Future
Justin Hartley‘s spouse Sofia Pernas is set to return for season 3 of Tracker — but what implications does this have for Colter’s romantic prospects?
In an exclusive chat with Us Weekly, executive producer Elwood Reid confirmed Pernas’ comeback, stating, “She’ll be back. We have an exciting midseason finale, and Billie will return for the winter premiere.”
The return of Pernas, 36, in her role as Billie doesn’t necessarily mean Colter is ready to commit.
“It’s complicated since he’s never in one spot for long. These are discussions I frequently have with Justin. One of the elements that makes the show appealing is that early in each episode, you see Colter’s emotional struggle to help someone in need,” Reid elaborated. “It would feel out of place for him to suddenly say, ‘Hold on, I’m going to sneak off for a quick hook-up in the middle of the story.’ So that’s not something we’ve pursued.”
Pernas and Colter’s relationship saw significant development in season 2, and Reid hinted at further exploration in season 3 while also deepening Billie’s personal storyline.
“The challenge with Billie is that she’s another tracker. She does the same work as Colter. It’s important to find engaging activities for both characters when she appears,” he observed. “Both characters are strong-willed when they’re together. We’ve discovered some exciting ways to incorporate her this season.”

Tracker is the third project where Pernas has collaborated with her husband. Hartley, 48, first appeared alongside Pernas on The Young and The Restless in 2015. They later reconnected off-screen and tied the knot in 2021, following their work together on the short-lived Quantum Leap reboot.
“She’s amazing. Honestly, if I could, I would spend every moment with her,” Hartley expressed to Us in July 2024. “What’s really special is finding someone who means so much to you and being proud to be with and support her. It’s wonderful to witness her talent on the screen, as she truly elevates every scene, making my work easier. Working with her is simply fantastic.”
Besides Pernas, Tracker also features an impressive array of guest stars who return frequently, including Jensen Ackles, Melissa Roxburgh, and Jennifer Morrison. Reid specifically mentioned Ackles’ involvement in season 3 and hinted at possible spinoff opportunities.
“I’ve added hints of a potential spinoff, hoping fans will piece things together. We included several teasers in the upcoming episodes. Jensen and Justin have such great chemistry and complement each other in a unique way,” Reid mentioned. “Their contrasting styles make their interactions captivating to watch. I’d always welcome Jensen whenever he’s available; I frequently text him to check in. While he’s currently busy with The Boys spinoff, who knows what could happen. I enjoy writing for Jensen and love having him in the mix.”
Tracker is set to return to CBS on Sunday, October 19, at 8 p.m. ET, with episodes available for streaming the following day on Paramount+.
