Jennifer Lawrence Weighs in on Fashion Trends and Y2K Style Insights
Jennifer Lawrence isn’t one to follow every trend.
In a candid discussion with Harper’s Bazaar released on Monday, November 3, the 35-year-old actress shared her fashion insights and her thoughts on certain Y2K trends.
“Skinny jeans are out, which I’m thrilled about,” she remarked, adding that she’s a fan of the trend where dresses are layered over pants. “I prefer when my body shape isn’t so clearly defined, especially around my thighs and ankles.”
Jen also mentioned her love for layering outfits, having been spotted in a chic brown cardigan over a matching sweater on October 29.
“It’s a sweater over a sweater,” she elaborated on her outfit choice. While she enjoys pairing dresses with jeans or layering tops, she clarified that she “didn’t layer a skirt on a skirt.”
As a busy mom of two, she finds that permanent jewelry simplifies her life. (Lawrence shares sons Cy, 3, and a newborn, who arrived in April, with her husband Cooke Maroney.)
“I’m currently in a phase of opting for more permanent jewelry rather than switching it up,” she shared, expressing her fondness for her “ear cuff” and “anklets” that she wears “daily.”
Lawrence also draws fashion inspiration from observing people’s styles in New York City and the characters she portrays.
“It happens every time. I really have to be aware of it. During filming, I notice it, and later I look at photos and wonder, ‘Who is that?’” she admitted.
“Grace had a big influence,” she said, referring to her character in Die My Love, who boasts a wardrobe of vibrant colors, strapless dresses, overalls, and oversized graphic tees. “I realized I began to dress like her.”
Interestingly, the iconic style of Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games series didn’t influence her personal fashion choices. While the character sported everything from athletic gear to elaborate Capitol styles, Lawrence noted that it didn’t resonate with her own wardrobe.
“Although I can’t braid my hair without thinking, ‘Oh, someone’s going to mention the movie,’” she joked about Katniss’ famous braid.
Recently, the No Hard Feelings actress hopped on the bangs trend. While attending the San Sebastian International Film Festival in September, she showcased a soft fringe during the Die My Love screening. Her blonde hair was trimmed just above her eyebrows, styled straight and sleek.
To complement her new hairstyle, Lawrence wore a full glam look styled by Georgie Eisdell, featuring long lashes, winged eyeliner, rosy cheeks, and pink, lined lips. She completed her outfit with an olive asymmetrical dress that boasted one short and one long sleeve, a cutout detail, and a flowing pleated skirt.
A bit of sparkle was added to her look with silver statement earrings and a delicate ring.
This year, several other stars have also embraced bangs, including Zoë Kravitz, Kourtney Kardashian, Katie Thurston, Leighton Meester, and Kristen Stewart.
