Kaia Gerber Shares What She Borrowed from Cindy Crawford’s Closet
Kaia Gerber is quite familiar with raiding her mom Cindy Crawford’s closet — and she has no intention of returning anything she “borrows.”
“I’ve taken a few items from my mom [Cindy Crawford] that I don’t wear often but can’t bear to part with!” Gerber, 24, shared with The Times of London in an interview published on Saturday, December 6. “Unfortunately, we don’t share the same shoe size, but I did snag a black leather Alaïa coat from her when I was 15, and I’m holding onto it for dear life.”
As a model and actress, Gerber also mentioned that she can be ready to go out in 20 minutes if she has chosen her outfit beforehand.
“If not, it could take more than an hour, so I organize all my outfits and take photos before heading out,” she elaborated.
While Gerber is comfortable with borrowing her mother’s clothing, that doesn’t mean she necessarily views her mom as “cool.” As she confessed in an exclusive teaser clip for Us Weekly from the debut episode of the “What Are We Even Doing?” podcast in September, she sees the legendary supermodel simply as a mom.
“They did this supermodels documentary on Apple. I watched it and was in tears. I called her and said, you know, she’s my mom. I wasn’t asking her, ‘So, why did you decide to do Playboy?’ or ‘How did you do the Pepsi commercial?’ I wasn’t thinking about that stuff,” she recounted.
“Hearing her story was a significant moment for me,” Kaia continued, prompting host Kyle MacLachlan to inquire if they often discuss Crawford’s career.
“No, I mean… how often do you talk to your… are your kids really curious about your career?” she asked MacLachlan, to which the Sex and the City star replied, “Not really.”
Gerber expressed that she frequently seeks her mom’s advice, especially regarding the demanding fashion and entertainment industry.
“I’m at a point where I’m eager for all the advice I can get,” she said. “I’m really curious about what guided her, particularly since she didn’t come from a family in the industry.”
Kaia has come to appreciate how crucial her mom has been in shaping her career.
“I can’t imagine what I’d do without her,” she remarked.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Gerber started modeling for Versace’s junior line when she was just 10 years old and made her London Fashion Week debut in 2017.
In May 2025, Gerber channeled her mother’s vibe at the premiere of Overcompensating in Los Angeles by wearing an outfit reminiscent of Crawford’s iconic Dolce & Gabbana runway look from 1992.
Both showcased voluminous curls and a lingerie-style top; Gerber opted for a black button-up cardigan and hot pants, while Crawford wore a little black dress featuring halter straps, long sleeves, attached gloves, and a chest cutout.
