Samuel Arnold from Emily in Paris Talks Possible Spinoff Ahead of Season 6
Filming season 5 of Emily in Paris brought a distinctive array of challenges and abundant highlights.
In an exclusive conversation with Us Weekly, Samuel Arnold shared insights on the production as Rome coped with the passing of Pope Francis, preceding the selection of Pope Leo XIV as his successor.
“We felt as though we were part of a significant historical and cultural event,” Arnold, who portrays Julien, told Us. “On a personal note, I kept reminding myself, ‘I’m doing what I adore—acting in stunning locations.’ It’s invaluable.”
The fifth season, which debuted on Thursday, December 18, continues the story after Emily (Lily Collins) has moved on with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) in Rome. Concurrently, Savoir is working to open a new location, with Julien, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), and Luc (Bruno Gouery) making the transition as well.
“From the initial season to now, Julien has been building his confidence—both professionally and in his interactions with others. This season, he truly embraces his strengths,” Arnold noted. “The show’s decision to film in cities like Paris or Rome allows us to experience these places in the most genuine way possible.”
Arnold commended creator Darren Star for his vision for the series.
“He has a beautiful perspective that resonates with us. Many viewers have fallen in love with the cities through this series,” he continued. “I believe we honored Rome in the same way this season.”
While Julien’s journey led him to Rome, he remained entangled in local drama, particularly caught in the middle of the squabble between Emily and Mindy (Ashley Park).
“It was quite amusing. I found that storyline amazing and can’t wait for audiences to see it,” Arnold expressed about Mindy temporarily staying with Julien. “These situations are common among friends.”
He added: “It also emphasizes the dynamics between Emily and Julien, Emily and Mindy, as well as Julien and Mindy. You can witness Julien’s role within these relationships. Collaborating with Ashley was fantastic, as I rarely have scenes with her, but when I do, it’s always memorable.”
Arnold enjoyed discovering more about Julien’s home life, noting, “We also get to see how Julien safeguards his space. He’s the type to complain when asked for help but ultimately steps up.”
Looking forward, Arnold has plenty he wishes for Julien.
“I’d love to see Julien travel. Perhaps he could start his own business—maybe a marketing firm. I’d love for him to visit the States and work there,” he suggested. “Changing environments brings fresh stories and new situations. I’m eager to see more of Julien’s journey and aspirations.”
Julien in America sounds intriguing, to which Arnold responded, “Let’s do it, honestly. Why not? I’m all for it.”
Arnold also shared thoughts on Julien navigating his own romantic triangle.
“I think Julien enjoys the drama as long as he’s not the one caught in it,” he hinted. “Sometimes you don’t always get what you desire. We’ll see if he gets wrapped up in some chaos this season or the next.”
Emily in Paris is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
