4 Hidden Gem Netflix Movies You Should Check Out in January 2026

At the start of January, Netflix unveiled a captivating collection of films spanning the last thirty years.

As we approach the middle of the month, it’s evident that some of these films may not dominate the streaming rankings.

That’s why Watch With Us is highlighting four underrated Netflix movies that should be on your watchlist this January 2026.

This selection includes a thrilling cyberpunk action film, a deeply emotional story, a gripping thriller, and a chilling zombie flick.

Does Netflix ever take a breather? The popular platform just wrapped up 2025 with its sensational Stranger Things finale, but it’s already gearing up for some major releases in 2026 this January. Leading the way is Bridgerton, which returns for a fourth season brimming with drama, intrigue, and impeccably tailored outfits.

‘Johnny Mnemonic’ (1995)

It’s easy to pass over Johnny Mnemonic when Keanu Reeves went on to star in the far more popular sci-fi thriller The Matrix just a few years later. However, this cyberpunk gem remains quite enjoyable, adapted from the work of William Gibson, a pioneer of the genre and the original author of Johnny Mnemonic.

Set in the dystopian year of 2021, Johnny (Reeves) is a courier tasked with transporting sensitive information embedded in his cybernetic mind. During what seems like a routine delivery, assassins target Johnny and inadvertently destroy the key to accessing the data. With his life on the line, Johnny must rely on a stranger, Jane (Dina Meyer), to help him survive. Dolph Lundgren offers a comedic performance as the Street Preacher, an assassin who chases Johnny and Jane throughout the film.

Johnny Mnemonic is available for streaming on Netflix.

‘My Girl’ (1991)

While Macaulay Culkin may have been the bigger name during the release of My Girl, it’s undeniably Anna Chlumsky‘s film. This coming-of-age narrative centers on Vada Margaret Sultenfuss (Chlumsky), an 11-year-old grappling with accepting her widowed father, Harry (Dan Aykroyd), embarking on a new relationship with Shelly DeVoto (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Vada’s friendship with her age-mate, Thomas J. Sennett (Culkin), serves as her refuge while navigating changes she neither seeks nor fully understands. Throughout her sheltered life, Vada enjoys the summer of her dreams, only to be confronted with an unforeseen tragedy that leaves her emotionally at sea.

‘Wild Things’ (1998)

Wild Things was considered rather provocative for its time. High school students Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell) and Kelly Lanier Van Ryan (Denise Richards) make separate allegations against their guidance counselor, Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon), accusing him of sexual assault. As the case unfolds in court, it appears everything is going Sam’s way, including a substantial financial settlement.

Sergeant Ray Duquette (Kevin Bacon) is the only one who seems to realize that an intricate scam is at play. Yet even Ray remains unaware of who is deceiving whom, and the lengths they might go to secure their reward. In matters of love and war, prepare for shocking twists and even murder.

‘Dawn of the Dead’ (2004)

George A. Romero’s original Dawn of the Dead is regarded as one of the early masterpieces of zombie cinema, but director Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake provides unexpected thrills. The script was penned by James Gunn, bringing together a diverse group of survivors including Ana Clark (Sarah Polley), Sergeant Kenneth Hall (Ving Rhames), and Michael Shaunessy (Jake Weber).

As the zombie apocalypse erupts, the survivors take refuge in a shopping mall. However, faced with a relentless horde of the undead, it quickly becomes clear that safety is elusive. When facing the end of the world, where can you escape? Stay tuned through the credits, as the story concludes in an unexpected manner.
