25 Entertaining Facts About Full House: Behind-the-Scenes Romances, Cast Changes, and a Title Twist
A decade ago, Netflix revived the Tanner family on screens nationwide with the Fuller House spinoff, diving into a history about the cherished sitcom that might surprise you.
The original U.S. series showcased a remarkable blend of life and art in various ways.
For instance, the late Bob Saget transitioned from a CBS morning show to portray Danny Tanner, a talk show host. Interestingly, Saget also had three daughters in real life, mirroring the show’s storyline.
Scott Weinger took on the role of Steve in Full House, while also lending his voice to Aladdin in Disney’s classic animated film. The series even paid tribute to this with a dream sequence where D.J. envisions Steve as Aladdin at Walt Disney World. In a fun twist, Candace Cameron Bure (D.J.) took Weinger to her prom in real life, just like in the show!

1. Saget was the initial choice for Danny Tanner, but due to a contract with CBS’ The Morning Program, John Posey filmed the pilot instead. After being let go for being “too edgy” for morning TV, Saget replaced Posey on Full House. (Ironically, Danny is the cohost of Wake Up, San Francisco!)
2. Although the Tanners’ fictional address is 1882 Gerrard Street, the actual house exterior resides at 1709 Broderick Street in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood, now a popular tourist spot.
3. The only actors who didn’t audition for Full House were Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) and John Stamos (Jesse), with Sweetin securing her role after impressing on a guest spot on Valerie.
4. The twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, were credited as one entity (Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen) until the eighth season, likely to maintain the illusion that a single child portrayed Michelle Tanner.
5. Only three actors appeared in every one of the show’s 192 episodes: Stamos, Sweetin, and Dave Coulier (Joey) — Saget missed out due to the original pilot!
6. Coulier played matchmaker, introducing Cameron Bure to her now-husband, Valeri Bure, during a hockey game in 1994.
7. Coulier tied the knot with Jayne Modean, who portrayed adult Michelle in a dream sequence, in 1990, welcoming a son, Luc, before their split two years later.
8. Much like Joey’s transition into Danny’s home, Coulier crashed on Saget’s couch while passing through Los Angeles in 1979.
9. Uncle Jesse’s name underwent two changes! Initially named Adam Cochran, Stamos requested the first name be altered. After season one, it was changed to Kastopolis to reflect Stamos’s Greek heritage, with the show explaining Jesse’s new stage name.
10. Elvis Presley’s loving Uncle Jesse shares a name with the singer’s stillborn twin, Jesse Garon.
11. Similar to Danny Tanner, Saget had three daughters in reality.
12. Stamos mentioned that he once had the Olsen twins let go due to their crying, which he found overwhelming. However, after hiring replacement babies who were “terrible,” he soon regretted his decision and wanted the Olsens back.
13. The Olsen twins’ younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen (now a Hollywood star!), made a cameo as “Girl with Flowers” in a 1995 episode.
14. The Walt Disney World episode features D.J. imagining Steve as Aladdin, a nod to Weinger’s voice role in the animated film series.
15. Bure took Weinger to her actual prom, just like D.J. and Steve did in the show.
16. D.J.’s initials stand for Donna Jo.
17. Initially intended to be Uncle Jesse’s love interest for only six episodes in season two, Lori Loughlin remained due to her strong chemistry with Stamos throughout the series.
18. Coulier once disclosed that he, Saget, and Stamos often found themselves in trouble with the younger students’ moms due to their adult humor, unaware that the kids had backstage monitors watching them.
19. Observant fans might notice Michelle using both hands to write and eat; this is due to Mary-Kate being left-handed and Ashley being right-handed.
20. By age six, Mary-Kate and Ashley began to appear distinct enough to differentiate. While producers contemplated letting Ashley go and just having Mary-Kate portray Michelle, Stamos advocated for both to stay.
21. The season eight episode “Comet’s Excellent Adventure” was the only one filmed in San Francisco.
22. The sequel series, Fuller House, debuted on Netflix two decades after Full House ended. This spinoff, which featured Bure and Sweetin in lead roles while Stamos, Saget, Coulier, and Loughlin appeared as recurring characters, ran for five seasons from 2016 to 2020.
23. Joey’s iconic “Cut! It! Out!” catchphrase first appeared on Coulier’s earlier 1984 Nickelodeon show, Out of Control.
