Celebrities Responding to Aging Remarks: J. Lo and Others
Recently, Jennifer Lopez made waves with her witty comeback to an interviewer who mentioned her age.
“Can you believe it’s been 30 years since the release of Selena? It’s astonishing that we’re doing this retrospective and you will be 60 by then,” remarked Variety’s Senior Awards Editor, Clayton Davis, during a video shared by TMZ on Sunday, December 15.
Lopez, who is 55, piped up with a surprised, “Wow,” as Davis continued to comment on her age, noting it was “getting up there.” Lopez nodded in agreement, responding, “I am.”
This elicited laughter — as well as some puzzled expressions — from the audience, with one audience member questioning, “Did he really just say that?”
Davis proceeded to praise Lopez for delivering “one of your best performances” in her recent project Unstoppable, released in September.
“It’s amusing that you think I’m reaching that age,” Lopez responded, while Davis quickly emphasized that his remark was intended as a “joke.” Lopez seemed unbothered by his comment and shifted the focus to appreciating the audience.
“I want to express my gratitude to all of you. We’ve been on this journey together for a long time,” Lopez expressed. “Today, while singing some new music, I revisited ‘If You Had My Love,’ my debut song from 1999. It’s truly been an incredible journey.”
“I genuinely believe that the best is yet to come,” she added. “I feel that my creativity and my identity as an artist—like you mentioned—have reached a new level, allowing me to dive deeper into who I am as an individual and an artist.”
Moreover, Lopez is not alone in Hollywood in demonstrating that age is merely a number. For more instances of celebrities confidently responding to age-related comments, keep scrolling:
