Hailey Bieber Shares Experience of Hemorrhaging After Welcoming Son Jack

Over a year after welcoming their son Jack, Hailey Bieber is reflecting on her intense childbirth journey.

“I pushed him out in 44 minutes. I thought, ‘I did it, I got him out.’ And then I just couldn’t stop bleeding,” Bieber, 29, shared in the March 3 episode of the “She MD” podcast with hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thais Aliabadi, who was present for Jack’s delivery. “I really didn’t see that coming.”

Hailey, who had Jack in August 2024 with her husband Justin Bieber, mentioned she had heard about postpartum hemorrhage but never thought it would affect her.

“Anything can go wrong during childbirth. It’s such a wild experience,” she explained. “I was bleeding, but I completely trust Dr. Aliabadi with my life… I knew she wouldn’t let anything go south for me.”

Justin Bieber reflected on Hailey’s childbirth experience nearly a year later. “My emotions were heightened. I didn’t want anyone to take away my moment as a dad,” Justin, 31, recalled during a recent Twitch livestream about a conversation with Hailey’s midwife in the delivery room. “Like, I got this too. There […]

Hailey recalled feeling “out of it” during the hemorrhage, unaware of the situation initially. Eventually, she began to “sense the panic” in the room, but her medical team reassured her she was going to be fine.

Dr. Aliabadi explained that postpartum hemorrhage occurs in 2 to 4 percent of vaginal births, primarily due to the uterine muscles failing to contract after delivery, which happened in Hailey’s case. She lost just under one liter of blood—typical for a postpartum hemorrhage.

“I was right on the edge,” Hailey said, describing the blood loss.

Both Hailey and her doctor emphasized that the incident unfolded within “seconds.”

Dr. Aliabadi ultimately used a Jada device, designed to contract the uterine muscles, to address the hemorrhage.

“They wouldn’t let me leave [after the bleed],” Hailey recalled, with Dr. Aliabadi indicating that patients must remain hospitalized for a certain time to avoid further complications.

In the podcast, Hailey also discussed discovering she had a moderate uterine septum, a rare condition where a thin tissue wall partially divides the uterus, which can raise the risk of miscarriage and preterm birth. She emphasized the importance of understanding her anatomy before having children, stating, “You want to know what you’re working with.”

When she unexpectedly became pregnant, her medical team closely monitored her septum. Fortunately, her uterus adapted and allowed her pregnancy to progress safely.

“The baby kept growing, my body did what it had to do, and thankfully, everything turned out fine,” she reflected.

Hailey and Justin, 32, who married in 2018, announced Jack’s birth on Instagram in August 2024.
