Jana Kramer Offers Co-Parenting Advice Following Mike Caussin Divorce

Jana Kramer is sharing insights on the co-parenting lessons she has acquired since her divorce from Mike Caussin.

“Here are a few things I’ve come to understand about co-parenting after divorce,” Kramer, 42, stated in an Instagram post on Saturday, September 5. “Ending a marriage brings immense pain and grief, and when you have children together, it’s impossible to completely sever ties. It took time, healing, and significant growth for me to learn how to set aside my personal pain and distinguish our relationship as partners from our roles as parents.”

Kramer and Caussin, who were married from 2015 to 2021, share two children: daughter Jolie, 10, and son Jace, 7. Kramer has since begun a new chapter with Scottish soccer coach Allan Russell, and they welcomed son Roman in 2023. They tied the knot in Scotland in 2024.

“One of the toughest lessons for me has been letting go of control,” she expressed. “What takes place at their dad’s place won’t always mirror what happens at mine. If an issue arises that I know their dad would want to discuss, I reach out to him, and I trust he’ll reciprocate.”

She further added, “Your children should never feel pressured to choose sides. Regardless of the circumstances between adults, kids deserve to maintain their relationship with both parents. I never want them to think that loving one of us equates to betraying the other.”

Kramer acknowledged that “missing portions of their lives is incredibly difficult” and something that may never feel entirely normal.

“There are normal school mornings, practices, holidays, and small moments that I’m absent for, which sometimes still stings,” she wrote. “Particularly with holidays, the first one you wake up without your kids or miss a tradition you’ve always celebrated together is genuinely heartbreaking. You eventually discover new traditions and a new normal, but those initial experiences are challenging, and it’s perfectly okay to recognize that.”

Kramer explained that her parenting arrangement with Caussin provides the ex-spouses with “structure,” but she noted that they don’t treat it as immutable.

Jana Kramer has worked on letting go of any bitterness towards her ex-husband Mike Caussin to facilitate an amicable co-parenting relationship for their children. “It’s a challenging journey, but harboring anger doesn’t benefit anyone,” Kramer, 41, shared exclusively with Us Weekly at iHeartRadio 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball on Friday, December 6. “It […]

“We’ve both become adept at adjusting schedules, swapping days as needed, and recognizing that life can be unpredictable. This flexibility from both ends has made co-parenting significantly easier,” she mentioned. “Having a supportive partner makes a world of difference. Allan acknowledges that co-parenting is a part of our lives and champions the bond that J&J have with their dad. There’s no rivalry or attempts to replace anyone, just another person in their corner who loves them and wishes the best for them.”

She continued, “A silver lining from this situation is Roman. He has positively transformed our family dynamic, and it’s been beautiful to watch the relationship among all three of them grow.”

Kramer clarified that with “three children of varying ages across two households, it’s easy for our time together to revolve around the family unit,” but she makes an effort to prioritize one-on-one interactions.

“I try to carve out individual time with each of them, be it a mani/pedi outing or a special movie night; I always want to ensure they have moments where they receive my undivided attention,” she wrote.

She concluded, “I certainly don’t have everything figured out. There are still challenging days, disagreements, and instances when past emotions resurface. Co-parenting isn’t about attaining perfection. To me, it’s about ongoing learning, showing each other grace, and returning to what matters most: our kids.”

In her caption, Kramer expressed her desire to share these lessons after engaging in discussions via DM about co-parenting. She added, “I hope this benefits someone else navigating a similar journey 🤍.”
