Kyle Schmid Suggests Wife Caity Lotz Might Appear in NCIS: Origins as a Love Interest

Kyle Schmid is working on achieving a work-life balance after welcoming their second child with his wife, Caity Lotz — and he’s more than open to having her guest star on NCIS: Origins.

“We’ve got a packed schedule,” Schmid, 41, shared exclusively with Us Weekly regarding his timetable on the CBS series, mentioning he did manage to take some time off after Caity, 39, gave birth to their son, William, in February.

As Mike Franks in the crime series, Schmid indicated that he relies on Lotz to help balance his responsibilities. (The couple also has a daughter, Lennox, who is 17 months old.)

“Fortunately, my wife is an actress, so she understands,” he expressed. “And she’s incredible. She’s my rock and manages everything beautifully.”

Schmid elaborated, “When I’m at home, I’m involved and being a dad. When I’m on set, I’m fully immersed as Franks. It’s just shifting between two different roles. Overall, I think we’re managing quite well.”

While Schmid and Lotz are navigating their new life as parents of two, the actor mentioned to Us that they’ve also considered having Lotz appear in an NCIS: Origins cameo.

Asked if Lotz could portray a “love interest” for Franks, Schmid chuckled. “Oh, that would be both incredibly fun and strange,” he replied.

Schmid admitted, “I’m not sure if she’d be into Franks. We might need to find that out.”

“I’ve discussed it with her. She’s definitely interested and ready to join the show,” he continued. “And I know the writers are eager to bring her on as well. It’s just about aligning the right character with the right timing.”

Lotz kicked off her acting career in the early 2000s, debuting in the 2006 film Bring It On: All or Nothing. She is well-known for playing Sara Lance/White Canary on Arrow from 2013 to 2020 and on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow from 2016 to 2022.

Additionally, she has ventured behind the scenes, writing and directing the short film Twin Turbo in 2019.

Schmid, on the other hand, began his acting journey in 1996. He gained recognition on the kids’ show I Was a Sixth Grade Alien before starring as Alex Thompson in the Disney Channel Original Movie Alley Cats Strike in 2000. He has been portraying Franks on NCIS: Origins since 2024.

Schmid and Lotz began their relationship in 2021 and became engaged the following year, ultimately marrying in Colombia in February 2023.

In September 2024, they announced the birth of their first child, daughter Lennox. Their son, William, was born in February.

“Forever changed ❤️ our little boy is here,” the couple shared in a joint Instagram post. “It’s true what they say about your heart expanding. Love doesn’t get reallocated—it just grows. My heart feels bigger and stronger than I ever imagined. This is our family 🥹.”

Schmid raved about fatherhood while giving Us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his NCIS: Origins costars, Caleb Foote and Austin Stowell, during their workout sessions on set.

“Balancing work, family, and everything else, including the dog—is fantastic,” he said. “You really don’t realize your purpose in life until it hits—you might see yourself mainly as an actor, but now, I’m a dad above everything.”

He added, “What I truly want most is to care for my family, play with the kids, and enjoy time with my wife. I feel incredibly fortunate.”

While he is enamored with his off-screen life, Schmid mentioned that the fans of NCIS: Origins have plenty to look forward to as the show resumes for the second half of season 2 on Tuesday, March 3.

“In the second half of the season, it’s like the gloves come off. There are no restrictions,” Schmid remarked to Us. “The writers have really excelled at heightening the stakes dramatically.”

He teased, “There’s some romance brewing, possibly. Given that we have 10 years to explore the storyline, this year especially is a pivotal moment that leads into the future of NCIS. It’s incredibly significant.”

NCIS: Origins will be back on CBS on Tuesday, March 3, at 9 p.m. ET. New episodes will be available to stream the following day on Paramount+.
