Shocking Twist: Abbott Elementary Splits Up Janine and Gregory

Abbott Elementary took viewers by surprise with a jaw-dropping breakup.

In the episode that aired on Wednesday, April 8, Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and Janine (Quinta Brunson) had a conflict over plans for an upcoming couples’ trip. Janine then brought up the idea of a breakup, and while their decision was left unseen, Brunson confirmed off-screen that the on-screen couple has indeed separated.

“No one anticipated it. I believe it’s an excellent time to shake things up. It was something I considered from the start of this season,” she revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “They’ve been together for a while, and we’ve seen them flourish and enjoy their honeymoon phase, but I wanted to delve deeper into what might be happening with these characters and the reality that such things can happen in relationships.”

Brunson aimed to present a relatable narrative.

“You’ll see Dominic again before the season concludes. We absolutely cherish having Luke Tennie. He’s fantastic and arguably the hardest-working man in show business right now; he is literally everywhere,” she shared. “It was hilarious when he first appeared, he mentioned, ‘Yeah, I’m on The Pitt too,’ and I thought, ‘Wow, you are really busy.’”

She wrapped up with: “What’s incredible is that we wrote the character of Dominic, and when Luke auditioned, I barely needed to view his tape after seeing his face. I was already a huge admirer of him from Shrinking. I knew he had what it took for this role. His audition tape was just a formality.”
