Scottie Scheffler Loses Temper with Reporter Over 2026 Masters Query
Scottie Scheffler was not impressed with a reporter’s question during the 2026 Masters Tournament.
“That was a 65 today. What did it feel like it could have or should have been?” SiriusXM and CBS Sports HQ golf reporter Jason Sobel asked Scheffler, 29, on Saturday, April 11, according to video footage.
“That’s just an awful question,” Scheffler responded, chuckling. “Next question. Terrible.”
As reported by ESPN, Scheffler’s 7-under 65 in the third round marked his best score in 27 rounds at the Masters. By the end of the day, he was trailing leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young—both tied for first—by four strokes.
“In his next response, Scottie discussed getting a mud ball, a gust of wind, and missing a putt all on the second nine, remarking, ‘It wasn’t perhaps that bad, but it could have definitely been lower,’” Sobel shared on social media, posting a clip of the tense interaction between the reporter and Scheffler.
The prestigious golf tournament is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, April 12. Just days prior, Scottie participated in the Par 3 Contestant alongside his wife Meredith Scheffler and their son Bennett, 23 months, along with their newborn son Remy. (Golf Digest journalist Jamie Kennedy noted that Meredith gave birth less than two weeks before this event.)
“This is what it’s all about!” Scottie posted on Instagram on Wednesday, April 8, sharing a family photo from Augusta National Golf Club. “Remy made his big debut and we are officially a family of four.”
Meredith also brought Remy to Scottie’s practice round on April 5 ahead of the 2026 Masters Tournament.
“We had another boy a couple weeks ago,” Scottie told reporters. “It’s been really nice. It’s been fun having them travel with me this week.”
He added, “My wife is amazing and brought the boys along this week. It’s been a blast.”
Scottie and Meredith wed in 2020 and welcomed their first child four years later.
“It’s just incredible watching Meredith go through that. It’s something else. I can’t quite describe it, witnessing our little dude come into the world,” the gold medalist reflected on Meredith’s delivery during a June 2024 press conference. “It was quite a journey, and I’m extremely proud of her. I wouldn’t want to go through it myself, and the look on her face right after birth—she was just glowing, so proud and excited to have our little boy.”
