Helena Bonham Carter Steps Down from ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4

Helena Bonham Carter will not be part of the upcoming season of The White Lotus, as her character is set to be reimagined and recast.

Deadline disclosed on Friday, April 24, that Carter, 59, is stepping down from her role in the fourth season currently filming in the French Riviera.

According to an HBO representative, “As production on Season 4 of The White Lotus started, it became clear that the character created by Mike White for Helena Bonham Carter didn’t match expectations once on set.”

The spokesperson added: “The role is being reevaluated, rewritten, and will be recast in the upcoming weeks. HBO, the production team, and Mike White are disappointed about not collaborating with her, but they remain loyal fans and sincerely hope to engage with the iconic actress on a different project soon.”

Us Weekly has reached out to HBO for further clarification.

Despite being a top pick for producers, White decided to modify and recast Carter’s character, which is situated during France’s Cannes Film Festival.

This recasting is not expected to disrupt the production timeline. Schedules will be adjusted to allow the rest of the cast to continue their work while the rewrites and recasting are underway.
