3 Oscar-Winning Films to Stream on Prime Video (May 2026)
Prime Video boasts a wide array of films, making it easy to discover Oscar-winning titles. The real challenge lies in curating a succinct list.
This month, the platform has introduced three films from the ’90s, collectively honored with several Academy Awards.
Watch With Us has selected these films as the top three Oscar-winning masterpieces to enjoy on Prime Video this April.
The lineup features a Western starring a Yellowstone actor, a romantic narrative, and a female road trip adventure.
‘Dances with Wolves’ (1990)
Kevin Costner received a Best Actor nomination for Dances With Wolves, but he and his co-stars were overlooked in the acting categories. Costner ultimately took home the awards for Best Director and Best Picture, along with five other Oscars, securing this film as the pinnacle of his career even three decades later.
Costner portrays Union soldier John J. Dunbar, the lone resident of a remote army outpost. While living off the land, Dunbar forms a bond with a Sioux tribe, particularly with the medicine man Kicking Bird (Ziŋtká Nagwáka). However, it’s Kicking Bird’s adoptive daughter, Stands With A Fist (Mary McDonnell), who captures Dunbar’s affection. Unfortunately, his relationship with the tribe may not sit well with his fellow Union soldiers.
Dances with Wolves is available for streaming on Prime Video.
‘Titanic’ (1997)
With 14 Oscar nominations, Titanic secured 11 wins, including Best Picture and Best Director for James Cameron. This film was undoubtedly the most successful of the ’90s and held the record as the highest-grossing movie of all time until Cameron’s own Avatar came along in 2009. Remarkably, Titanic maintains a devoted fan base nearly 30 years after its debut.
Set primarily in 1912, the Titanic‘s maiden voyage leads to an unexpected romance between Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet). Understandably, Rose’s fiancé, Cal Hockley (Billy Zane), is livid, even though Rose has never loved him. Cal’s desperate attempts to sabotage their relationship coincide with the looming iceberg, which threatens to sink the Titanic. If Jack and Rose aren’t careful, they may go down with the ship.
Titanic can be rented or purchased on Prime Video.
‘Thelma & Louise’ (1991)
It’s fair to say that Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon both deserved their Best Actress nominations for Thelma & Louise, though their simultaneous nominations likely split their votes. While it may have been tough for either to outshine the eventual winner, Jodie Foster for The Silence of the Lambs, Thelma & Louise did win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, awarded to Callie Khouri.
Davis and Sarandon portray Thelma Dickinson and Louise Sawyer, friends whose weekend getaway spirals out of control. Louise kills a man attempting to assault Thelma, and she correctly foresees that few would believe her account. Their only hope for freedom is to outrun the authorities en route to Mexico. Brad Pitt also features briefly as J.D., a charming bad boy who captures Thelma’s interest.
Thelma & Louise is currently streaming on Prime Video.
