Nick Cannon Clarifies His Daughter’s Viral Remark About Her Siblings

Nick Cannon is setting the record straight regarding his daughter Monroe’s viral comments about having “one brother.”

“It’s amusing because people thought it was about a deeper conversation than it actually was,” Cannon, 45, explained to host Shannon Sharpe on a recent episode of the “Club Shay Shay” podcast. “It was just a chat between 14-year-olds.”

Cannon, who has twins Monroe and Moroccan, 15, with ex-wife Mariah Carey, was referencing his daughter’s remarks about her siblings made in November 2025.

“Just to clarify, I only have ONE brother, @moroccan.cannon,” Monroe shared in her Instagram Story. “I do have other half-siblings from my dad, but they are all many years younger than me!”

Nick Cannon shared that his and Mariah Carey’s 11-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, enjoy having a larger family — including their younger siblings. “At this point, they have fun and are the oldest, but who knows what will happen when they hit 16,” Cannon, 42, […]

Monroe and Moroccan are the only children Cannon and Carey have together. However, Cannon is also the father of 10 additional kids, including Golden, 9, Powerful Queen, 5, and Rise Messiah, 3, with Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion, 4, and Beautiful Zeppelin, 3, with Abby De La Rosa; Legendary, 3, with Bre Tiesi; Onyx, 3, with LaNisha Cole; and Halo, 3, with Alyssa Scott. Cannon and Scott also had a son, Zen, who sadly passed away in 2021 at 5 months due to brain cancer.

Cannon clarified to Sharpe that Monroe was trying to express that she has only one sibling with a similar age.

“So my daughter just wanted to clarify that she only has one brother who is close to her age,” he said.

Cannon shared that Monroe felt “upset” by how the internet misconstrued her message.

“The world jumped into some teenage gossip and turned it into something else,” he said. “That upset my daughter, so she was like, ‘I didn’t mean that. I said my dad has other kids.’”

While comforting his daughter, the Masked Singer host offered her advice on social media usage.

“I told her, ‘Monroe, you don’t owe anyone an explanation,’” he remembered. “‘But let this be a lesson that you need to be cautious about what you say online. People can take something minor and exaggerate it.’”

Crushing coparenting! Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have successfully been raising their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, since their separation in 2014. The “We Belong Together” singer welcomed their little ones in April 2011, just six months after announcing her pregnancy. “Yes, we are pregnant. It is true,” the New York native confirmed […]

Earlier this month, Cannon admitted he’s “protective” of Monroe as she enters the age where she may start dating.

“I am more protective of my daughter because there are things I need to shield her from,” he explained during the “TMZ Podcast” in May. “As we know, there are certain types of individuals you want to keep your daughter away from.”

Cannon acknowledged the “double standard” he has, as he has allowed Moroccan to date.

“First of all, it’s definitely a double standard,” he admitted. “And I know I get into trouble for being honest. But there is a distinction between raising a son and raising a daughter.”
