Scott Patterson from Gilmore Girls Suggests Rory’s Boyfriends Would Be Unfaithful
Gilmore Girls veteran Scott Patterson remains neutral when it comes to choosing between Rory Gilmore’s romantic interests on the series.
In a recent segment on Fox 29’s MIKE, Patterson, 67, was questioned about his allegiance to either “Team Dean, Jess, or Logan,” referring to Rory’s (played by Alexis Bledel) three boyfriends throughout the show.
“Here’s how I address that question now,” Patterson — who portrayed Luke Danes, the diner owner and eventual love interest of Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) — stated. “Taking a practical approach, if we analyze marriage with each of these guys ten years down the line … hypothetically, with two kids by then, I believe Dean, Jess, and Logan would all likely cheat on her.”
Jared Padalecki portrayed Rory’s first high school boyfriend, Dean Forester, while Milo Ventimiglia took on the role of her second love, Jess Mariano. Matt Czuchry later joined the cast as Rory’s college boyfriend, Logan Huntzberger.
Even though Logan proposed to Rory in the final season, she declined his offer to pursue her own path. In Netflix’s 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, they ended up having an affair, which culminated in Rory being pregnant, strongly hinting that Logan was the father.
If he had to pick one of the three, Patterson would lean towards Logan — but not necessarily because he’s the ideal match for Rory.
“In a divorce settlement, Logan would be her best option, as she would likely get a substantial sum of money,” Patterson elaborated, alluding to the Huntzberger family’s wealth. “Plus, she would get a chance at revenge on [Logan’s father, the newspaper mogul Mitchum Huntzberger, played by Gregg Henry], who undermined her confidence in journalism.”
Much like Patterson, his Gilmore Girls character was known for being critical of Rory’s romantic partners — including Jess, his own nephew. He once remarked to Lorelai, Rory’s mother, that she deserved a “prince.”
Patterson — who recently watched Gilmore Girls for the first time to discuss it on his podcast, “I Am All In” — described Rory’s romantic interests as “bums” in an October 2025 interview with People.
“Rory needs to grow from her experiences with these boys. There’s new potential out there for her. She ought to redefine her desires and aspirations,” he expressed at the time. “I think she needs a completely fresh start with someone new. … I have supported both sides in the past, but I now think she deserves an entirely new experience. None of these relationships were successful for a reason.”
Despite his criticisms of Rory’s past partners, Patterson revealed exclusively to Us Weekly in October 2025 that he is open to another Gilmore Girls revival.
“If Amy is considering a Christmas special and Lauren is echoing that sentiment, then I believe there’s intention, so I remain hopeful — and I think the fans do too,” he mentioned, referencing prior comments from series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and Graham, 59. “This is the one question fans continuously ask, and while I wish I had a definitive answer, I don’t … I’m confident it’ll happen. Maybe.”
