Every Year After Cast Hints at Show’s Future Following Book Modifications

Following the unexpected cliffhanger of Every Year After, numerous questions have emerged concerning the series’ potential direction.

Alert: Spoilers ahead for season 1 of Every Year After.

“I believe that decision really rests with Amy [B. Harris] and Carley [Fortune],” Aurora Perrineau, who portrays Chantal on the series, told Us Weekly in an exclusive interview. “I think catering to the desires of the fanbase is essential.”

This adored tale, which features dual timelines, chronicles Percy (Sadie Soverall) as she returns to Barry’s Bay following the news of her ex Sam’s (Matt Cornett) mother’s passing. Upon revisiting her childhood getaway, Percy must face unresolved feelings for her ex and the emotional fallout from their breakup, which also involves Sam’s brother, Charlie (Michael Bradway).

Meanwhile, Sam and Percy’s close friends — Chantal (Perrineau) and Jordie (Joseph Chiu) — navigate their own evolving romance. Chiu expressed interest in exploring more of Chantal’s backstory.

“I’m eager to learn how Chantal evolved into the strong-willed lawyer we see,” Chiu shared with Us, noting that he had previously discussed Jordie’s background with Amy, particularly concerning his parents’ divorce. “That would be fascinating.”

Fans of Off Campus and The Summer I Turned Pretty should definitely check out Prime Video’s Every Year After — but where might they recognize the cast? Based on the book by Carley Fortune, Every Year After chronicles Percy (Sadie Soverall) as she revisits her childhood vacation destination in Barry’s Bay after a significant event.

Perrineau added, “I believe the characters will be much more developed in the upcoming season.”

The conclusion of season 1 certainly paves the way for a sequel, with a cliffhanger featuring Charlie seemingly facing a health scare after encountering an old photo with Sam and Percy from summers past. (Readers may recall that this photograph was taken by Alice, who becomes Charlie’s love interest in Fortune’s book One Golden Summer.)

Every Summer After author Fortune, whose novel inspired the series, also shared her thoughts on its future — particularly whether a subsequent season could spotlight a different romantic storyline (like that of Charlie and Alice or Jordie and Chantal).

“I would let Amy answer that. My role is to stay true to the books, while Amy may envision their paths differently,” Fortune, 42, remarked in a special interview with Us. “I’ll reserve my interpretations for the literary realm.”

Every Year After is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
