Jelly Roll discovered he was going to be a father while he was behind bars.

“A guard knocks on my cell door in the middle of the day during lockdown. He says, ‘You had a kid today,’” the country artist recounted in an interview with Billboard in June 2023, reflecting on his 2008 drug conviction. “I’ve never had anything in my life that made me realize I needed to change. I had to sort things out right then and there.”

Nearly two years after his release, Jelly Roll was awarded primary custody of his daughter Bailee. He also shares a son named Noah Buddy with an ex, Melisa, and married Bunnie Xo in 2016 after a year of dating.

Who Is Bailee Ann’s Mother?

Jelly Roll co-parents Bailee with ex Felicia Beckwith, who eventually lost custody due to her ongoing struggles with addiction.

“My child’s mother has battled drug addiction pretty much since Bailee was born,” the “Save Me” singer shared on “The Pivot” podcast in March 2025. “I’ve seen the impact it has had on [Bailee]. … The addict is not the victim in this case. The family is. Of course, the addict is a victim of their disease as well.”

That same year, Beckwith was arrested for drug possession.

“It devastated my daughter,” Jelly Roll recounted about Beckwith’s arrest. “This is a 17-year-old who knows her mother is an addict, but seeing the mugshot of her mom was incredibly hard for her. I’m 40 and have worked through a lot of my issues, but I can only imagine how much it hurt her. This is something she’s still learning to cope with.”

Jelly Roll’s Custody Battle with Bailee

Jelly Roll was in prison when he first learned that Beckwith was pregnant.

“I got out when she was almost 2 years old. At that time, her mother wouldn’t let me see her, which was understandable because I was a criminal,” Jelly Roll mentioned on a March 2025 episode of the “Smartless” podcast. “I had to fight in court for supervised visitation. It took time to rebuild our relationship, starting with just a few hours together each week. I had to keep proving myself every six months.”

Eventually, Jelly Roll was granted primary custody of Bailee due to Beckwith’s battles with addiction.

“As a teenager, I’ve accepted my past,” Bailee revealed in the Hulu documentary Jelly Roll: Save Me, which debuted in 2023, regarding her mother’s absence. “I’ve worked through the challenges of my childhood, but that doesn’t erase it. It has shaped who I am today.”

Bailee graduated from high school in May 2026, shortly after being named prom queen.

“Today, you turn 18 and graduate high school. You are accomplishing something very few in this family have managed to do, including myself,” he shared on Instagram. “You are not just a high school graduate; you’re about to become a college student. When we talk about breaking generational curses, you truly embody that. You are kind, intelligent, caring, adventurous, humorous, and authentic. In simplest terms, you are everything I wasn’t.”

Jelly Roll’s Daughter and Her Bond with Bunnie Xo

Since marrying Jelly Roll in 2016, Bunnie has become a significant figure in Bailee’s life.

“I want women to understand that it doesn’t matter when you are ready to be a mother—just embrace it and strive to be the best mom you can,” Bunnie exclusively shared with Us Weekly in January 2026. “God gave me Bailee as a trial run because my greatest fear was repeating the trauma my parents inflicted on me.”

She continued, “I never envisioned myself as a mother; however, raising Bailee has shown me that perhaps I can take on this role. Everyone carries some form of trauma, intentional or not, but I believe I can excel in this mom role.”

At that time, Bunnie and Jelly Roll were also navigating a journey towards expanding their family.

Jelly Roll filed for divorce from Bunnie in May 2026, citing irreconcilable differences.
