Yellowstone Star Speaks on 6666 Spinoff’s Future Amid Delays

Yellowstone star Jefferson White recently provided a rare insight into the future of the 6666 spinoff, which has faced several delays over the years.

When asked earlier this year if he would be returning for 6666, White, 36, responded to The Daily Mail, saying, “Not that I know of now.”

The actor, who first portrayed his character on Yellowstone, remains optimistic.

“I’ve kept my fingers crossed, but I’d also be thankful for the opportunity I had, and I’m grateful for what I was able to do,” he remarked. “I don’t want to be selfish. We had a lot of amazing moments from that show.”

Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and introduced audiences to the fictional Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana. While some viewers were drawn in by Kevin Costner’s portrayal of family patriarch John Dutton, others stayed for the stellar performances of actors like Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Gil Birmingham, and Cole Hauser, along with the compelling storylines and unexpected plot twists.

Creator Taylor Sheridan has broadened his television universe with original series such as Landman, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, and Tulsa King. He has also developed prequel series to Yellowstone, starting with 1883 and subsequently 1923.

However, many Yellowstone fans are still anticipating the long-rumored 6666 spinoff, intended to follow Jimmy Hurdstrom (White) during his days at the Four Sixes ranch in Texas.

“Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666,” the official series synopsis mentioned. “Still operating as it did two centuries ago and covering an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and nature’s laws converge — a place where the most perilous act one undertakes is the next one. … The 6666 epitomizes the relentless pursuit of raising the finest horses and livestock in the world, and is where elite cowboys are born and made.”

Regrettably, the latest news regarding 6666 came in 2022, when it was revealed that the series would be airing on Paramount Network instead of Paramount+. The franchise has since branched out with its own Dutton Ranch and Marshals spinoffs.

Fans have interpreted the lack of public updates concerning 6666 as an indication that production may not proceed. (Sheridan acquired the actual Four Sixes in 2021.)

Christina Voros, a director for Yellowstone, previously shared with TV Insider that collaborating with Sheridan often leads to extended breaks between projects.

“We won’t know what the narrative will be until we receive the scripts. When the time for storytelling arrives, I expect a script in my inbox,” she said in a 2024 interview regarding the Yellowstone series finale. “And I’ll be thrilled to saddle up.”

She added: “I genuinely don’t know how Taylor decides which stories he will tell, especially concerning 6666 and 1944. I believe he has closed many doors on Yellowstone this season. There are definitely characters we won’t see again because they’ve been written out. However, he appears to have left some doors ajar, with others that might be locked — but we’ll find out when we approach them.”
