Donald Trump Claims Kristen Welker Should Face FCC Consequences
President Donald Trump stated that NBC journalist Kristen Welker “will be reported” to the Federal Communications Commission due to remarks she made during a promotional segment for Meet the Press.
“Kristen Welker, the unpopular ‘hostess’ of the once-great Meet the Press, now known as Meet the Fake Press, just claimed that Donald Trump has ‘mixed results’ on his endorsements of candidates, despite the recent victories of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, which stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate and 98% for the U.S. House, both recently and over the long haul,” the 80-year-old president wrote on his Truth Social account on Sunday, August 30.
He continued, “How can anyone be permitted to state this while working for publicly owned airwaves? Because of this deliberate misrepresentation, she will be reported to the FCC for reprimand or action.”
The president included a graph demonstrating purported endorsement records from the Republican primaries, which contradict Welker’s comments, 50, made during an appearance on NBC’s local Washington, D.C., station that teased upcoming Meet the Press coverage.
The journalist, who became the moderator for the news program in 2023, mentioned during her appearance that the primaries showed “mixed results,” according to a report by CNN. The outlet noted that NBC’s recent coverage supported Welker’s commentary.
A spokesperson for NBC stated to CNN on Sunday, “Kristen is one of the best in the business, and we stand by her.”
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez also responded on X on Sunday to the president’s FCC assertion. “As I’ve stated multiple times, the FCC has no authority to penalize journalists that this administration disapproves of,” she wrote. “These threats to press freedom are alarming. They threaten the essence of our democracy and have no place in it.”
The president’s social media post asserted that Welker was “not the only” journalist or member of the media to report alleged inaccuracies. “The radical left media is making every effort to harass, belittle, and defame anything related to ‘TRUMP.’ Their new tactic is to claim that my 99% SUCCESS rate on endorsements, 100% on senatorial endorsements (many of whom weren’t even considered viable until I endorsed them!), is either a mixed result or insufficient,” he continued. “In reality, it is undoubtedly the strongest endorsement in the history of politics.”
He concluded, “The media is a disgrace to our nation, and I hope that [FCC] chairman Brendan Carr, along with the fine individuals of his commission, will take this threat to our country very seriously. Thank you for your attention to this crucial issue of fake polls and commentary!”
