Angelina Jolie Makes Rare Remarks About Her Six Children
Angelina Jolie is certainly a proud mother.
“They definitely have their own identities. It’s a source of great pride for me because one of the key aspects of parenting is to allow them the space to grow,” Jolie, 51, expressed in a recent interview with L’Officiel published on September 9. “As a parent, you strive to accomplish many things, but it’s equally important to not hinder the development of these young individuals, who lead lives distinct from your own and hold immense potential within them. You aim to provide support.”
Jolie and her former spouse Brad Pitt have six children: Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 18. (Jolie and Pitt, now 62, separated in 2016 and finalized their divorce in 2024. Since then, Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne have each chosen to legally drop the Bullet Train actor’s last name.)
In recent times, several of the former couple’s children have started to chase their own dreams and interests, including Shiloh, who gained viral fame in 2024 by showcasing her dance skills to the tune of “Tanzania.”
Jolie also mentioned in her recent interview, “Maddox is concentrating on becoming a pilot, and Pax is delving into photography.”
“Of course, it’s wonderful to be around them, but I am just Mom, wishing to be with her family,” the actress shared.
As many of Jolie’s children transition into adulthood, the Oscar-winning actress has begun to pursue new solo endeavors.
“I truly cherish and anticipate building more connections and community. I’m not someone who enjoys vacations or shopping. I envision engaging in more fieldwork, traveling, and immersing myself in the world,” she explained to L’Officiel. “I’d like to get my motorcycle back or hop back in the pilot’s seat, I’m not sure. That’s definitely something my kids want!”
She continued, “They had Mom when they needed her. Now, they want me to call from Tunisia right after landing a plane to meet with local artists. I agree that would be lovely.”
Jolie shares a remarkably close relationship with her children.
“My mom and I share a unique, almost spiritual connection that can be challenging to articulate,” Zahara shared during a Spelman College event with her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in April. “Our bond is defined by love. I was adopted at 6 months old and blessed with the most loving and special siblings — with a mother who instilled in us the importance of kindness, helping others, and continuously striving for personal growth.”
Zahara, who graduated from Spelman in May, expressed her gratitude for having Jolie as a “role model” who exemplifies “what it means to be a good human being.”
Zahara concluded, “For any daughters here who feel like their mom is a superhero and wonder how she manages it all, it’s something I’ve sought to understand throughout my life.”
