Alyssa Farah Griffin of The View Reflects on Her Baby’s Skull Surgery
The View host Alyssa Farah Griffin is providing a health update on her baby boy after he had skull surgery at just 3 months old.
“The helmet he has, I never clarified what he actually needed,” Griffin, 37, said during the Wednesday, September 23, episode of the “Behind the Table” podcast. “He underwent craniofacial surgery performed by a neurosurgeon. It’s surgery on the skull. This condition is not rare but not overly common either. Sometimes, the skull can fuse too early, causing the brain to grow into it, which can lead to both physical and developmental challenges.”
Fortunately, baby Justin Jr. is “doing great” and is anticipated to fully recover.
“We have an excellent doctor… The helmet is just to assist in the healing process,” Griffin explained about the helmet, which is expected to be worn for about a year. “He doesn’t mind it at all.”
This discussion arose after Alyssa posted a photo of her husband, Justin Griffin, holding their son. In the image, Justin Jr. was seen wearing a helmet as they attended church together.
“I had an amazing pediatrician who noticed it,” Alyssa recalled. “It’s remarkable that she identified a slight irregularity in his head and advised, ‘You need to see a neurosurgeon soon.’ If addressed at 3 months, it’s a less invasive procedure and allows time for correction before it becomes more serious and difficult for him to recover from.”
While she openly shares her views on various “Hot Topics” every morning on The View, Alyssa mentioned that she is cautious about revealing too much about her family life.
One boundary she has set is to keep her son’s face private on social media.

“It’s a matter of comfort for me. If it were just View fans, I’d share everything,” she told podcast host Brian Teta. “But there are unkind people and those who exploit images, along with concerns about AI, so I want to protect his identity for now.”
In her initial months of motherhood, Alyssa has learned the value of trusting her partner, healthcare professionals, and her community.
“I believe doctors and nurses are true angels,” she stated. “During the most frightening moment of my life, knowing he was going under as a little boy and facing the biggest risk of blood loss during surgery, I had to sign off on him receiving a blood transfusion. That’s when you really have to trust those who know better.”
She is also thankful for her faith, which provides her with the assurance that she is never alone on her journey through parenthood.
“You must trust in God,” Alyssa remarked. “There is a greater force at play, something more powerful, and I want guidance from something larger and wiser than myself as I raise this little boy.”
